Grant Curran, owner of the "double muscle" heifer which
sold for 74c a pound at the Ontario Stockyards in April is
pictured with Bill Taylor, Lucknow Co-op shipper, and his
son, Brad. Grant purchased the heifer at the Lucknow
Community Sales Barn.
A "double muscled" heifer belonging to Grant Curran, R.
R. 7 Lucknow, brought top price at the Ontario Stockyards
on Wednesday, April 26, 1978. The heifer will yield twice
the number of steaks because of its double layer of muscle.
This is a freak occurrence as heifers cannot be bred as
double muscle, it is something which happens rarely. To
the buyer "double muscle" is "double steak" and they
are willing to pay a bigger price because of the potential
meat yield.
