You can hunt until you aredizzy, but somehow it will get by. Until the forms are off the press, it is strange how still it sleeps. • It shrinks down in a corner, and it never stirs or peeps. That typographical error is too small for human eyes until the ink is on the paper, when it grows to a mountain size. The boss just stares in horror, then he grabs his hair and groans. The copy reader drops his head upon his hands and moans. - The remainder of the issue may be as clean as clean can be, but the typographical error is the only thing they'll see. (from the Salvation Army Triumph Press) Margaret McGee, chairman of the Ontario Block Parents' Advisory Committee, spoke to a public meeting organized by the Lucknow District Kinettes about establishing a Block Parent Program in Lucknow. She said that there may be some who do not believe a program is necessary in Lucknow because the community is small and closely knit and everyone knows everybody. But, she said, the danger to the community's children is not from within the community, but rather,a danger that comes in from outside the community or is passing through. People who harm children will drive to an area where they are not known and where there is no protection for children on the streets, she said. Do we need Block -Parents......... CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 said Margaret.. There are people behind those signs who will help the child, people who are watching the streets. The program draws a community together with every per- son feeling a shared responsibility for the children of the community. "The result is a feeling of community spirit," she said, where citizens are working together with one another, the teachers and principals of their schools and local police department. "The program .makes for understanding each other better." The program strives to have at least two Block Parents on each block, but, more than two is desirable in the event that QIPIO.NEERR Model SX -750 AM/FM STEREO RECEIVER >a • 0 y . .N. t.• maw • 100 RMS TOTAL 50 WATTS PER CHANNEL. • NO MORE THAN 0:1 % T.H.D. r' ."f7 II 1I $399.00 Also - Some to And See.. The curious thing about the program in London is that, Block Parents are not giving their signs back, yet, they have been Block Parents for 10 years. It is reassuring to a parent that if your child is going to a stranger for help that he/she is a proper person, and this is the reason that anyone applying to be a Block Parent must be screened by the police as well as any member of the household who is over the age of 16. "It is also reassuring to a child that a Block Parent is a safe stranger who will help in a time of trouble," added Margaret.. Liquor plebiscite - .Ashfield Township Poll No. 1 Dungannon Agric. The worship service and the smorgasbord meal and pincic were held on the church lawn in Lucknow. A beautiful,, sunny morn-. ing made an ideal setting for the service led by Rev. Wm. Munshaw with assistance from Donelda Moffat on the accordion and an instrumen- tal group to lead the hymns. Those who took part in the devotions were Bev and Wayne Bell, Kevin and Stephen Machan, Murray and Dale Gilchrist, Rob and Tom Henderson, Anne Ham- ilton, Tracy McDonagh, Jo Marie MacCormick and Faye Forster. Diane Hawthrone, Laurie Clarke and Ruth Henderson on guitars led two anthems sung by the Junior Choir members `of both churches. Over 200 people attended the meal following the serv- ice. ...Games, relays and contests were conducted with prizes for the winners. Young and old alike joined in the fun. To the delight of all, two retired ladies tied their legs together and - ran the three-legged race to compete with the teenagers. A candy scramble for the children and a game of baseball rounded off the events. Rev. Munshaw drew ev- eryone together to join hands in a circle to sing Psalm 23. The pronouncement of the Benediction closed an enjoy- able day of fellowship and fun.
