Mr. and Mrs. Norval Stewart of Olivet along with Mrs. Mary (Donnie) MacDonald of Ripley attended the annual dinner meet- ing of Bruce County Historical Society held in Wiarton last Friday. Jdiss Mary MacDonald of Toronto spent the past weekend at her home on Ripley Street in Ripley. • Also Miss Katherine Murray of Toronto is visiting with her sister -Annie and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ham MacKinnon in Ripley. Miss Betty MacDonald and friend of Creemore spent the weekend in Ripley with Miss Gertie Kidney. Betty Ann Godfrey of London visited with her parents Reg and Frances Godfrey in Ripley. Marietta and Gordon Dawson and son Lewis of Toronto are visiting with her mother Mrs. Mary (Donnie) MacDonald in Ripley. Local heifer brings big price Not every day a heifer is worthy of a special news story. On Wednesday, April 26, 1978, a red heifer belonging to Grant Curran of R. R. 1 Dungannon, was trucked to Ontario Stockyards by C&M Transport c/o Bill Taylor, Lucknow, Ontario. The sales staff of U.C.O. Livestock Department reported active bidding by a number of buyers who recognized the poten- tial of this "double_ muscled" heifer. At close of bidding, the animal belonged to Greco Meats. The price paid was • 74c per pound and at 1070 pounds, the gross return was $791.80. Grant purchased the heifer at the Lucknow Community Sales Barn. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Clark and family•had his parents of Timmins visiting them last week. Donald and Doreen MacLeod of Windsor were with his sister Mrs. Donalda Gossell last week and they attended the Gowing-Craig wedding in Chalmers United Church last Saturday. , Norman C. MacDonald and Jim Lowry of Ripley are patients in Kincardine and District Hospital as of last week. Mrs. Wayne Nixon and daugh- ter Darlene had a "Stanley Party" last Thursday evening with Mrs. Dorothy ' Irwin of Paisley, the demonstrator. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Wardell and family were their grandchildren Tena and Vincent whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wardell of Tiverton. About 400,000 are disabled to some degree with tens of thousands being confined to bed or wheel- chair. is Mrs. Janet (Wayne) Nixon of Ripley on behalf of the Purple Grove Women's Institute. • Word of the passing of Reid Morgan, former native of Huron and then a resident of Ripley was, received on Monday of this week by Mrs. Marion McTavish. The funeral is to be held in Walkerton. Back in the thirties and forties Reid along with his brother Roy, worked with their brother Elmer, -in the beekeeping here. Spring flower' Show A large crowd attended the annual Spring Flower Show and tea which was held in the Legion Hall, Ripley, May 16th. The hall was filled with the many spring flowers. While the tulips were not at their best, the daffodils and hyacinths were beautiful. Mrs. Gordon Farrell was high point winner. with 30 points; Mrs. Walter Farrell 24 points; and Mrs. Ben Ruffle had 21 points. The plant table with peren- nials, dahlias and houseplants did a brisk business as well as the bake table.
