Albert fishway during the spawning run that began in mid-April. The fish pass through a
concrete spillway that bypasses the Port Albert dam on Nine Mile River and are tem-
porarily trapped in a wire cage that is lifted from the water to net thefish out. The trap is
lifted once every hour and this lift resulted in the tagging of 10 good size trout. (Photo by

trout are netted out of the cage
and put in bathtub like containers
awaiting processing. Tigert
scoops the fish out of the tubs by
hand, places them on a measur-
ing table and Walroth records the
fishes' weight; length, sex and
spawning condition and a tag is
sewn on its back. Tigert then puts
the fish in a foot wide tub that
carried the fish back to the river
above the dam.
Walroth said the size and
condition of the fish trapped in
the fishway indicates life is good
for a rainbow trout in Lake Huron.
Some of the fish have large scars
from lamprey attacks but those
scars indicate the fish are capable
of surviving such attacks more
readily than lake trout, a species
devasted by lamprey.
Walroth said the ,average.
weight of trout passing through
the fishway has been about five
`pounds and the average length 25
inches. He said the tagging
operation will permit ministry
staff to trace the movement nf the
fish, expected life span, growth
rate, spawning success and
ability to survive through the
perils of water pollution, lamprey
attacks and an increasing number
of sport fishermen.
The tagging is notnew to trout
in Lake Huron. Ministry employ-
ees have been tagging fish at the
Saugeen River fishway at South-
ampton for five years and some of
these fish have chosen the Port
Albert fishway as a spawning
route this year. Port Albert
fishway staff are hopeful they can
return the favour next year When
some of their fish use the
Saugeen fishway as a spawning
route.
The condition of each fish that passes through the Port
Albert fishway is noted and recorded in ministry of
natural resources files. The fish are tagged for iden-
tification and if caught in the future in another fishway
the progress of the fish between spawning seasons can be
monitored. This fish bears a large scar indicating it
suffered from a lamprey attack recently. The rainbow
trout has been `able to withstand lamprey more so than
lake trout which were devastated by the parasite. (photo

For some time now 1 have been eagerly awaiting
the arrival of,an Unemployment Insurance cheque
which is due to me, but the weeks go by and still no
cheque in the mail.
Ottawa has been notified by your local U.I.C.
office that the cheque they mailed you is either lost,
stolen or strayed. They claim .that np reply has as
yet been received from Ottawa but they point out
that this could take considerable time as all aspects'
of the cheque's whereabouts must be determined ,
before a duplicate cheque can be issued. It'snot a
question of them doubting your word, but a ,
thorough investigation has to be made to°make sure
.mainly, that the original cheque has not been
cashed by anyone else.

My wife has had a severe drinking problem for a
long time now.
I love her very dearly but there is just no way
that the children and I can put up with any more of.
this.
Any suggestions?

you, your wife has attended several A.A. meetings
with this lady A.A. member, and already your
