I d� F0 kJ" This Week in Ripley BY AB WYLDS The Ripley community was saddened this past week by the sudden illness and death of Mrs. Florence Liddle. Mrs. Liddle was found in her home on Tuesday morning, May 9, by Mrs. Bert Irwin, after Doug was unable to contact his mother, although he had talked to her the previous evening. She was taken to Kincar- dine and District ° Hospital where she passed away Tuesday even- ing. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Jim Bushell in ' St. Andrew's United Church last Saturday afternoon, May 13, 19.78. Mrs. Liddle was an active community worker and will be missed here. Sympathy is extend- ed to her family, sons Robert of Gimli, Manitoba; Donald (Don- nie) of Oakville, Douglas of Clarks and Ripley; Norman of Huron - South Shore (Kincardine area); also to her daughter Kathryn (Mrs. Ted Marion) of Lahr, Germany, at this time of their sad bereavement. She was predeceas- ed by her husband Charles Liddle Sr., one son Jack, and one .grandson Reid Liddle. On Thursday, afternoon of , last' week the funeral service for Mrs. Peter Dahmer of the Millarton ar- ea was conducted in Ripley at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funer- al Home. Sympathy is expressed to her daughter Hazel on the home farm at Wharton, also her second daughter and son who live elsewhere. On Saturday evening, May, 6th, a 25th wedding anniversary party was held in the Ripley Huron Community Complex Centre for Ray and Marg Fuller. About 90 people attended the party arrang- ed by 'Lee and Susan, Ross and Lynda, Debbie and Brian, and Kathy. Friends and relatives attended from Oakville, Toronto, Norwood, Dundas, Hamilton, Simcoe, Milton, Kitchener, Hills - burg, London, Campbellville and Ripley. Special guests were relatives from Medicine Hat, Alberta - Mrs. Price, Ian and Barb Price,. Kendy and Brooke Price, Ray, Wilda and boys. Music was by Sound System. June Dodds made the cake. On Sunday many of the out of town guests called in to visit. Ray and Wilda and boys flew back to Calgary on Monday. The rest of the family from Alberta returned home last Saturday. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Gamble entertained Len and Rene Buckler of Milton who were guests at the anniversary party Mrs. Nora Frederiksen . was able to return home from the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. Her husband Neils drove down and they returned home last Tuesday. • Mrs. Lois Irwin was assisting Mrs. Marion McTavish, assistant postmaster, at the Ripley office last week. Just before five last Thursday. afternoon the Royal Bank signs came down from the exterior north wall of the "old" bank. It has been the village bank in that spot starting away back in 1912 up to last fall when the new one was completed. It will return to being a store which it was before the Royal moved there. On last Saturday noon radio report from the Ontario Livestock Yards in Toronto, Bob Courtney and Elmer Smeltzer were listed for having the week's top priced calf and group of Charolais steers respectively. The shipping drover was Leonard Courtney. Wayne and Millie Cadotte of the Sarnia area and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Sullivan of Toledo, Ohio visited last weekend with the Storey family on.conces- sion 12 and with Don and Barb Paquette on concession 4, Huron. Mr. and Mrs. Cadotte lived just west. of , St. Andrew's United Church while he worked at the Nuclear Plant. Last Friday noon the Happy Hearts Senior Citizens had a Kentucky Colonel dinner. the dinner was held in St. Andrew's Church. KNOX PRESBYTERIAN W.M.S. The Knox Presbyterian Church Women's Missionary Society in Ripley held their May meeting on, Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Effie Sutherland. Mrs. Amelia Cumming wel- comed those. present and took the call to worship and prayer. Mrs. Donnie MacDonald read the scripture, meditation and prayer. Mrs.Violet Martyn read the minutes of the last two meetings. Mrs. Nugent reported on the meeting held in April in Chat- ham. She also showed slides of Miss Joy Randall, a missionary nurse in Taiwan. Mrs. Adeline Hackett took the Study Book with assistants Effie Sutherland, Donalda Gossell and Gladys Huston. Mrs. Donnie MacDonald volun- teered to be the delegate for the Maitland Presbyterial meeting in Belmore. The courtesies were expressed by Marie Lowry. Lunch was served by the committee Effie Sutherland, Adeline Hack- ett, Martha Maclvor, and Martha Huston, followed by a social time. . Besides the above events there was the Spring Prom at the high school on Friday night, the wedding on Saturday afternoon, and the Ripley Girl Guides held a door to door cookie sale on Saturday morning. Mrs. Reg Godfrey accompanied Rev. George Garratt, Lucknow, to _ the Anglican Synod meeting in. London last Monday. Dr. and Mrs. Homer Hunt of Palo Alto, California, were Wed- nesday visitors with Helen Jean's aunt, Ada Farrell and cousins Mary (Donnie) MacDonald and Don and Anne McCosh. Mrs. Hunt is the daughter of the late Dr. Dan Martyn and Mrs. Florence Colwell Martyn, former residents of this community. Friends of Betty Scott were glad to see her able to be home after spending -three weeks in - Westminster Hospital, London, much improved in health. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Webster brought Reta's mother,. Gladys Mason, home from Westminister Hospital, where she had surgery. Reta and Roy returned to their London home on Sunday. Margaret Blue, Violet Mac- Kenzie, Earl Tout, Reg Godfrey, Reg Moore and Frank Scott attended the Zone 9 Senior Citizen's Zone Rally in Maxwell on Tuesday. Kenneth MacLennan spent the weekend with his mother, Norma MacLennan. ' Ripley District School SECONDARY On May 8 the Dramatic Arts class travelled to the Stratford Shakespearian Festival to see the production, "As You Like It".
