HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1978-05-17, Page 10Page 10—•Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, May 17, 1978 Church groups and Women's Institutes meet LUCKNOW JUNIOR WOMEN'S INSTITUTE Dr. Henry Feenstra was the guest speaker at the Lucknow \ " Junior Women's Institute meet- ing held on Tuesday, May 9th. He talked about the position you hold in the family and some of the characteristics held by that group. The people at the meeting found him to be a very enjoyable speaker. Guests from the Howick Junior Institute, Maitland Women's In- stitute and Lucknow Senior Wom- en's Institute were also present. Following Dr. Henry Feen- stra's discussion, lunch was served. PINE RIVER U.C.W. Pine River United Church Women met in the church on Tuesday evening, May 9. Mrs. D. Thorburn presided, opening with a poem. The president reported on the two day leadership sessions she attended at Five Oaks. An invita- tion to Ripley on June 5 was accepted. The program was convened by Mrs. Wayne Lowry. A reading on the life and work of St. Francis was given by Mrs. Douglas Martyn. The Bible Study was based on the theme, Lord when did we see You? Readings were taken by Mrs: 'Robert Putman and Mrs. Lowry. During the social period lunch was served by Mrs. Ernie Thompson, Mrs. Bob Scott and Mrs. Leonard Reid. TRINITY U.C.W. ASHFIELD Mrs. Harvey Ritchie held the meeting of the Trinity United Church Women, Ashfield, at her home on May II. Mrs. Douglas Raynard had the devotion and read a poem. Joan Helm read the scripture. President, Mrs. Donald Hack- ett, took charge of the program. The garden party plans were discussed. There is to be a church cleaning this week. The June meeting is to be a grandmother's meeting. Lunch was served by the committee in charge.. ST. MARY'S C.W.L. St. Mary's C.W.L. visited Pinecrest Manor on Wednesday, May 10th and held their monthly meeting there. Fr. Dentinger opened the meeting with the League Prayer and Mrs. Leddy, president, welcomed all with reading a poem. Mrs. MacDonald read the minutes and gave the treasurer's report and the correspondence which included a letter from "The Church" TV program. A donation is being sent to help keep the program on the TV. Mrs. Brophy read three (3) letters from members of the educational and political members that she receiv- ed in answer to the letters she sent re pornography. Mrs. O'Donnell read ari"hrticle. Mrs. Brophy read a poen. Fr. Dentinger read and discussed an article in the C.W.L. Constitu- tion.
