Council
West Wawanosh Township.
Council met for its regular session
on Tuesday evening, May 2,
1978, in the Township Office at
the Public Works Garage. All
members were in attendance and
Reeve Lyons ptesided.
The minutes of the April
meeting were read and adopted
on motion of Councillors Hickey
and Cranston.
Mr. John Shetler attended the
meeting to ask Council to have
the Murray Drainage Works,
crossing his property, moved to
the north of its present location.
Moved by Councillors Stothers
and Hickey: "That West Wawa -
nosh Township Council give its
approval to. the request of John
Shetler to have the Murray
Drainage Works moved to the
north of its present location on his
property, Lot 18, Concession 9".
Motion by Councillors Foran
and Hickey: "That West Wawa -
nosh Township Council accept the
contract price of $4400 of Don
Nicholson (Robert Nicholson Con-
st. Co. Ltd.) to " clean out the
Murray Drainage Works, .subject
to a reduction or consideration for
the work of moving the ditch on
the Shetler property, to be paid
for by John Shetler." carried
Motion. by Councillors Hickey
and Cranston: "That Building
Permits be issued to: A. Helm
(garage); R. Brindley (barn); R.
Noble (mobile home); J. Sticklend
(addition to house); W. Todd
(addition to barn); D. McCauley
(2 houses); C. Stewart (house); S.
Park (mobile home); D. Burkhart
(garage); R. Alton (addition and
alteratiOn to house); and R.
Hanna (mobile h%me)." carried
Council on advice from the
Building Inspector, directed the
Clerk to advertise in two papers
regarding the Building By-law,'
and that it is an offence to
commence any construction in the
township before obtaining a
building permit.
The Reid Municipal Drain was
discussed. The Drainage Superin-
tendent will contact the owners
before the next meeting to
consider a suitable course to
follow in undertaking the repair
and clean out of the Drain.
J. D. Durnin reported to council
on- his progress with the dog
count. The Clerk was directed to
order a further 50 dog tags.
Motion by Councillors Hickey
. and Stothers: "That West Wawa -
nosh Township hereby concurs
with the resolution of the
Township of Turnberry in connec-
tion with the choice of literary
study material being selected for _
Huron County Schools by the
Huron County Board of Educa-
tion. carried
• Motion by Councillors Foran
and Hickey: "That Pollard Bros.'
price of $96.50 per flake ton
equivalent for liquid calcium
chloride be accepted, subject to
approval by the Ministry of
Transportation and Communi-
cations." carried
The Clerk was directed, on a
motion by Councillors Stothers
and Foran, to order four (4) table
top polling booths for use at
municipal elections.
The Auditor's Financial Report
for 1977 and the 1978 Budget for
the Township were discussed
briefly. The Clerk informed
Council of a meeting with the
auditor the following morning to
• review the '78 budget, and it was
agreed that Council would recon-
vene on Wednesday evening,
May 3rd, to adopt a budget and
. set mill rates.
.The road accounts were passed
for payment on motion of
Councillors Hickey and Foran.
The general accounts were
ordered paid on motion of
Councillors Cranston and Stoth-
ers.
Ray Elliott, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Bryce Elliott, Lucknolv,. who is
employed by Xerox of Canada
Ltd., in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has
received that company's 1977
President's Club Award.
This award, which recognizes
his contributions in the technical
field, includes a cruise, for Ray
and his wife, Noreen, through the
Caribbean, with visits to Jamaica,
Haiti, - Nassau and the Berry
Islands.
