A high school teacher for 42 years before her retirement in she was a life member of the U.C.W. of Calvin United Church, St. Helens, and a member of the St. Helens Women's Institute and - the Historical Society. Beef calf income stabilization , The Ontario Beef -Calf Income Stabilization Program support price has been set at 51.5c per pound for 1978. The enrolment fee -is. $8.00 per cow. Enrolment forms have been mailed to producers - who have been in the program. Applica- tions are to be completed and mailed .by May 31st, 1978. Any producer who did not receive his enrolment form, or has not been in the program and wishes to participate may do so by picking up an enrolment form at the Ontario Ministry of Agricul- ture, and Food Office in Clinton. Cow -calf men , who have not participated in the program previously are asked° to complete„ a contract as well and return both forms to the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food Office by May 31st. 4 If the average market price of Ontario produced calves sold in September, October and Novem- ber is less than the support price.: of :51,5c a payment will be made.. The .grant will be .85 x 450 x (51.5 - market .price), being calculated on an average 450 lb. calf and an 85% calf crop. CLUB:. NEWS Obituaries The daughter of the late John B. Rutherford and Mary Jane Durnin of West Wawanosh, she was born November 12, 1887. She is survived by three nieces and one nephew, Helen, Mrs. Tom Todd, St. Helens; Isobel Miller, St. Helens; Dorothy, Mrs. Gordon McIntyre, Richmond Hill and Gordon Miller, London. ' She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary, and Margaret, Mrs. W. I. Miller, and one brother, Hugh. The funeral was held on April 28, 1978 at 2 p.m. from the MacKenzie and McCreath Funer- al Home, Lucknow, with Rev. Albert J. Cook officiating. Pallbearers were Don Camer- on, John Rutherford, Raymond Laidlaw, Don McIntyre, Wayne Todd and Hugh Todd. ST. HELENS LIVELY SIX The seventh meeting of the St. Helens Lively Six took place at the St. Helens Hall. The minutes of our last meeting were read by Marian Raynard. Mrs. Errington, Mrs. Weber and the 4-H members read from the members' pamphlet the informa- tion on "First Aid In Emergen- cies" and "Babysitting".Then. we read the booklet "Sitting Safely". Ross Errington cameto our meeting to show the members • how to revive an unconscious person with four methods. These methods are Mouthto ' Mouth, Scbafer, Hodger-Neilson and the Revised Silvester. Following the demonstration, we worked on our achievement day skit. CAMPING CUTIES The Lucknow Camping Cuties met April 24 for tiie first meeting of the project, "Outdoor Living"; Leaders are Elizabeth Ritchie and Ruth Alton and the . officers elected are, president, Nancy Alton; vice president, Susan Thompson; treasurer, Debra Arn- old; secretary and press reporter, rotate. Elizabeth told the girls that physical,: fitness and equipment are the two . main necessities to enjoy the outdoors and Ruth demonstrated demonstrated exercises the girls tried ,to achieve the fitness requireifietit. Flowerbearers were Jim Laid- law and Greg Laidlaw. Burial followed in Greenhill Cemetery. • JOHN DONALD ROSS John Donald Ross died at his residence in Wiarton on April 24, 1978, in his 75th year. He was the beloved husband of Luella Ferrier and the dear father of Elva (Mrs. Fred Richardson) of Cayuga; June (Mrs. Douglas Baird) of Cayuga; Marion (Mrs. 'Douglas Fess) of Binbrook; Harv- ey of St. Catharines; Arnold of Sudbury and Bowen of Forest. He was the treasured grand- father of 13 grandchildren and one great grandson; the brother of Mrs. Annie Maclntyre and Alex Ross of Lucknow. He was predeceased by one granddaughter, Dianne. Mr. Ross was born in Kinloss Township in 1903, the son of the late John B. Ross and the former Emily MacDougall. He grew up in the Lucknow area, and spent many years of his teaching career in this vicinity - at Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, May 3, 1978 -,Doge 31 • Clover Valley and Rapid City schools, then as principal of the Lucknow Public School; until his move in 1951 to principal of the Public School in Cayuga, Ontario, He retired in 1965, and resided in Cayuga until 1974, when he and Mrs. Ross moved to Wiarton, Ontario. Services for the late Mr, Ross were held at the George Funeral Home on April 26, 1978. They were conducted by Rev. Lorne Keays of the Wiarton United Church, of which Mr. Ross was a faithful member. Pallbearers were his three sons and his three sons-in-law. Interment was in Bayview Cemetery, Wiarton. J MAUDE LILLIAN SHERWOOD Maude Lillian Sherwood, Luck - now, died on April 19, 1978 in Wingham and District Hospital, at the age of 89. She worked as a sales clerk for local merchants and later as a dental receptionist for Dr. James Little, Lucknow. A member of Lucknow Presby- terian Church, she .belonged to the church's W.M.S. and ,Even- ing Auxiliary and the Lucknow Town and Country Club. Born in 'England on May 3, 1888, she married the late Alfred Sherwood of Ashfield Township. She is survived by two step- daughters, Mildred, Mrs. Mel- ville Henry, Huron Township, and Ruby, Mrs. Chester Finni- gan, Lucknow. She was predeceased by one brother, Charles Cooke and two sisters, Florence Tyler and Dor- othy Cooke. The funeral was held from the MacKenzie and McCreath Funer- al Home, Lucknow, on April 21, 1978 at 2.00 p.m. with Rev. Wm. Munshaw conducting the service. Burial followed in South Kin- loss Cemetery.
