Desert for about three months before returning home for a furlough in mid-January. He left in February
for the Atlantic coast of Argentine. He has been working in Rivadavia and hopes for a move to Trelen
because Rivadavia is "not what foreign field 'travelling is all about".

a commercial salt mining venture.
Mopti, on the Niger River, was,
a town of about 10,000 people.
The Malian people live to survive
by irrigation farming. There is no
industry and they have a tradi-
tional African native life style.
They were friendly and helpful
and Wally like Mali most of the
countries he has worked in or
visited on his four trips to Africa.
Most of the natives are Moslem
and he found Maligns unaffected
by the political crises in other
African countries.
The Sahara desert would seem
to be the loneliest place to work
for two and half months but Wally
found it less isolated than many
places because their ham radio
allowed them to talk with people
_all over the world. The radio kept
them intouch with people even
.c
though they were sitting in the
middle of the Sahara.
Special clothing was not requir-
ed for work in the desert; Wally-
had
allhad a ski jacket with him for the
nights. Temperatures ranged
from 45 degrees farenheit at night
to,85-90 farenheit in the daytime.
An average survey job last
between two and eight months
and you work, eat, sleep and
drink. The people who work these
survey jobs are able to come to
terms with themselves in these
working situations but it takes
conditioning.
Wally likes his work; the travel,
the coming home and going away
again, and the money is good. But
perhaps, it is the adventure that
he finds most attractive. But
then, he's been "adventure
orientated" since he was a boy on
his father's farm.

What are some causes of action that are not
capable of Small Claims Court procedure?
Certain issues ranging from seduction and
breach of promise of marriage to malicious
prosecution and slander and libel are outsidethe
ambit of Small Claims Court. In dealing with any
court you must act quickly. If your cause of action
is one properly handled in Small Claims Court you
will be required to start your action within a
stipulated time:that is, before the "limitation
period" is up. For example, you have two years
from the date of an automobile accident between.
two private parties, in which to start your action.
The limitation period will be shorter if one of the
vehicles involved is owned by the Crown. .

brought in Small Claims Court?
The maximum amount is now $1,000.00 due to
recent amendments. This is up from a previous
maximum of $400.00
p.
Can the cost of legal counsel's fees be recovered
in Small Claims Court?
Yes, to a maximum of $40.00. Very few full-
fledged lawyers argue cases in S- sail Claims Court. t
Articling students, however, are common. ' Now/

which are fairly nominal and -vary with the amount
of your claim. No fees are allowed if there is no trial
e.g. if a default judgment is obtained before
hearing. Fees are not recoverable if it is a student
or an agent appearing on your behalf.
