L. Walker. He has 200,000 accident free miles during the past 10 years. Cpl. Conley is the son of Eugene and Ruth Conley of Lucknow, Ontario and has been serving in the Armed Forces for the past 16 years. Salaries: 74°l0 of :..,.... CONTINUED FROM PAGE 9 The trustees argue that three-quarters of the budget is fixed costs like salaries and they have no power to alter that. Added to that are the fixed costs for debt charges and plant operation which means that if wages are beyond the control .of the board's budget then over 90 per cent of the money spent annually is out of the hands of the board of education trustees. The high percentage paid in salaries is a shock to many business minded people. Many claim that if wages exceed 50 per cent of gross ex- penses a company is paying too much for staff. If that rule of thumb applied to education or many other government agencies then one third of the board's staff would have to face early retirement or school taxes would have to be increased. by 30 per cent. t.'Clark Kinsmen charter..... Tuesday, April 11th a French group from Quebec called "The Classical Trio" attended R.D.S. to entertain the students with their bilingual performance. The trio entertained the students with their music and later the students asked questions about their instruments in both French and English. The instruments which the group played were the cello, flute, recorder and the guitar. The group is travelling across. Canada to different schools with their .performance. EXAMS Mid-term exams were held from Tuesday, April 18 to Friday, April 21. REMINDER This is a reminder to everyone that the R.D.S. variety concert will be held on May 18th and 19th. The students are busy preparing for this night. Also, prom tickets are now on sale and may be purchased from any R.D.S. student. The prom is on May 12th with music by "Mir- age". ELEMENTARY The Ripley District School elementary floor hockey house league finals were played on April 21 between Robin Cuyler's team and Debbie Stevenson's team. It was a close game but Debbie's team defeated Robin's team 3-2. The teachers from Ripley played the teachers from Luck - now in, a basketball game..
