Persons convicted of being intoxicated while

As the Friday session of council
began, a special motion was intro-
duced by Reeves Turner and Scott:
That we, the Huron couuty council,
do not let this opportunity WN with-
out paying our sincere respects to our
late Governor-General and gallant
leader of the Canadian forces over-
seas, Clenerat Byng, and that the flag
be placed at halt -mast over our court
house.
The councillors stood at attendee
while the uag was lowered to half-
mast.
A supplementary report of the edu-
cation committee was read and on
motion was re -read clause by clause.
One clause was as follows:
"We would recommend that repre-
sentatives of this council meet the
Loudon Board of Education to maks
arrangements for admission of Huron
county pupils to the Technical School
in London and to arrange for pay-
ment
ayment of fees"

A lively discussion ensued when
Reeve Scott moved that the commit,
tee apt'olnted to meet the Technical

per cent. of the cost of pupils sent
from this county.
Reeve McNaII argued that the com-
mittee should not be tied down to
explicit orders, but should be allowed
to handle the situation ar they Mw

opinion that the percentage asked of
this county would be more than sixty
per cent.

Damage Claim from Aah�M0
When council plunged into the
county road commission report, clause
by clause, after the noon adjournment,
a heated argument ensued over the
Anal clause of the report, dealing with
a claim by Mr. Martin, of Ashlleld
township, for $200 for damages to
his land by an overflow of water from
a ditch.
Reeve Matheson upheld the action
of his township In refusing payment
of the claim, and others claimed that
by establishing a precedent in paying
the claim the county would leave )t -
self liable to every claim In the future.
Reeve Matheson sold tbe cause of the
property damage was without prece-
dent. at any rate In Ontario.
Tbe committee finally was given
fall power to sic In the matter.
Tbe report was adopted with the
further amendment that the question
of keeping county roads open during
the winter months be left In the hands
of the road commission and County
Engineer Patterson.
