Fire -• should it break outin your home -- may spread more
quickly if, the panels in your home have a high flame spread rating.
Furthermore, if your project requires a.building permit your local
building inspector may --require you to remove any prefinished
panelling that does not have an acceptable flame spread rating.
What is a. flame s.pead rated panel? The flame spread rating of a
prefinished panel is an index, indicating the extent of spread of
flame on the surface of the panel as' determined in a fire test con-
ducted in accordance with the provisions of the Ontario Building,
Code.
Section 9.10.17.1. of the Ontario Building Code provides that a,
flame spread rating of 15018 acceptable for the bxposed surface
of interior walls and ceilings. $o look for the rating stamp on the
back of the panels you buye=r and choose. from those rated at 150
or less such as the five shown above.
