junior- Fanners meet
The West Huron Junior Farm-
ers held their regular meeting on
April 10th, 1978 at Brookside
Public School. Everyone intro-
duced -themselves because there
were many new faces and told
why they were there.
Joanne. Ritchie read the minut-
es of the March meeting. 'The
May 5th dance was discussed and
each committee gave a report.
The county formal is in May at
Blyth where the County King and
Queen will be chosen. Our king,
Murray Irwin, is unable to attend
so Alex Irvin is replacing him.
The club has been asked to supply
a booth and help with the gates at
a tractor pull on July 22-23 which
the Lucknow Lions are sponsor-
ing.
Murray Irvin reported on the
signs for the Medical Centre. The
little sign for the corner of
Havelock and Highway 86 is now
completed and the big sign for in
front of the Medical Centre is
being made.
Joanne Ritchie reported on the
Annual Conference in Toronto
which Nancy and Doug Aitchison,
Fran Logtenburg and she attend-
ed. Nancy Aitchison then report,
ed on a treasurer's workshop
which was held in Kitchener for
all club and county treasurers.
The evening ended with a game
of volleyball.
Ripley District School
ELEMENTARY
Congratulations to the elemen-
tary basketball teams. Both girls
and boys won second place in the
tournaments held last Friday. The
boys' tournament was held here
in Ripley, and the 1st place
winner was W. E. Thompson. The
girl's match was held in Elgin
Market, and the winner was
Lucknow.
GRADE 7 PUPPET PLAYS
On April 12, Mrs. Henderson's
grade seven pupils entertained
the kindergarten, and grade one
students of Ripley -Huron Central
School with their own puppet
plays. There were two perform-
ances held in the Ripley District
School Library to accommodate
the classes of Mrs. Elliott, Mrs.
Johnson and Mrs. MacDonald.
Shari Clampitt, dressed as - a
clown, introduced each of the
seven plays. "The Fat King and
the Doughnuts" was done by
Terry Irwin, Wilfred Janisse, Eric
VanderGlas, Danny Smeltzer and
Otto Linde. "The Fisherman and
his Wife" was staged by Kathy
Boyd, Cathy Fludder, Andrea
Farrell and Brenda Van. Kooten.
"Rose Red and Rose White" had
as its cast Rhonda Watson,
Debbie Roberts, Audrey Green,
Leslie Baxter and Ann Marie
Cleaver.
"Hansel and. Gretel" was
performed by Steve Ball, Joe
Nugent, Doug Benjamin and John
Van Kooten. "The Boy who
Fooled the ..Giant" was put on by
Larry Coiling, Guy Dahmer, Mike
Hunter, Derek Miller and Kevin
Boyle. The cast of "Simpleton" -
consisted of David Gamble, Kevin
Hackett, Frank MacLennan, Joe
Blundell and Dale Lyell.
The hour closed with "The
Sorcerer's Apprentice" present-
ed by Kevin Irwin, Gary Rutledge
and Michael Moore.. -
The children enjoyed the stor-
ies with all the special characters,
such as the kings and princes, the
talking fish, bear and alligator,
the cow -eating giant and . the
witch.
The actors worked hard on
producing the props and special
effects as well as making .all the
puppets. After the performance,.
the older students let their guests
try out their hand puppets.

ZIPPY TRINETTES II
The last meeting of Zippy
Trinettes II was held on April 15.
As it was environmental stud-
ies we went down to Port Albert
and a representative from Natural
Resources•was there to talk about
the fish ladder and fish trap,
explaining their purpose. The
salmon and trout were not
jumping as the water temperature
has to be 7.5 degrees C. before
they swim up stream to spawn.
Lunch and refreshments were
enjoyed at Donna Campbell's
home following the trip.
TRINTY I
The first Garden Club meeting
of the Zippy Trinettes I was held
on Tuesday evening, April 11, at
Mrs. Hackett's. Mrs. D. A.
Hackett and Mrs. C. Wilkins are
leaders for this club. The election
of officers followed: president,
Carol Ritchie; vice president, Gail
Kemp; press reporter, Lori Hack-
ett; secretary, rotating; treasurer,
Janet Wilkins.
The leaders discussed "Why
Grow a Vegetable Garden?" Mrs.
Hackett demonstrated how ' to
make a garden plan and everyone
participated by labelling different
vegetables on the plan.
To close the meeting the
leaders prepared a variety of raw
vegetables and an onion dip.
