Norma had he r 80th birthday last
Saturday. The birthday party was
held on Sunday with the family
home - Jean (Mrs. Lindsay) and
Donald MacLennan of Toronto,
Ross MacLennan of London and
Kenneth MacLennan of the
Toronto Collegiate teaching staff.
Ripley area folks wish Norma
many more happy birthdays.
People in this area were
pleased to see the fine article and
pictures of Miss Beverley Smith
in the London Free Press on April
10th - Monday of last week.
It is very rarely that one can see
anything on the main intersection
of Ripley at seven on Sunday
morning. Not so last Sunday,
after looking twice there were two
dark horses taking an easy trot
across and on west to about Bob
Love's place or Brian's Sunoco
Garage. Here they turned around
and you would never guess it,
there were two more horses
coming from the west. All trotted
slowly towards the Royal Bank
corner and vanished - just out for
a stroll in the - bright morning
sunshine • with no cars t� bother
them at that early hour.
The wedding of Shirley Mc-
Creath, R.N., daughter of Wil-
liam and Helen McCreath of
Ripley and Peter Walden, son of
Mrs. Marion Walden, and the
late Murray Walden of Reid's
Corners, was held last Saturday
in Ripley Knox Presbyterian
Church,
On Wednesday of last week,.
April 12, 1978, Mrs. Verner
Brown of Point Clark area passed
away in the University Hospital in
London. The former Lillian Skeg-
gs, Mrs. Brown was born in
London on October 15, 1909. She
is survived by two daughters Pat
and Jan and was predeceased by
her husband, Verner and son,
Ronald. Sympathy. of the
community is extended to the
daughters. Both attended high
school in Ripley and Pat was an
outstanding athlete at the track
'and field meets.
The Ripley and District Horti-
cultural Society held their regular
meeting in the Ripley Huron
Legion Half- on April 1 lth at 8
p.m. President, Mrs. Ewan
MacLean of Lochalsh, welcomed
everyone tothe meeting. Mem-
bers were reminded of the
District Annu `1 being held iii
Wingham on April 22nd and of
the Spring Flower Show in the
Ripley Huron Legion Hall on May
16th. Everyone enjoyed two solos
byRev: Jim Bushell of Ripley.
Guest speaker for the evening
was Bill Fahey from Durham. Mr.
Fahey is founder and president of
the Saugeen Field Naturalist
Club. He shared his knowledge of
the flora and fauna ' in the
Grey -Bruce area by showing and
commenting on slides of wild
flowers, fungi, and birds. Mr.
Fahey sharpened everyone's
awareness of the natural beauty
that surrounds us in all the
seasons. Courtesies were given
by Mrs. Oliver McCharles of
Lochalsh.
The Ripley Agricultural Society
held its April,meeting on Monday
evening of last week, April 10th,
with president, Jack Farrell; in
charge. Discussed were such
things as the trophy case in the
complex, 4-H clubs, the spring
dance, fencing on the ball park
and the use of the complex for the
fair. Mrs. Dorothy Brooks who
has served the society well as its
treasurer for the past 18 years
resigned and her position is now
taken by Mrs. Gloria Rutledge.
After her retiring address she was
given applause.
Jack McLean of Ripley who
passed away on April 7 in
Kincardine and District Hospital
was born in Ripley on June 16th,
1929.. , He attended the Ripley
Schools and then for many years
he worked for the Walden
Brothers (Bill and Eric) as bus
driver and motor mechanic both
in Ripley - and then after their
move in Wingham. The Kincar- —
dine Masonic • Lodge held a
service on Sunday evening in the
funeral home.
Jim Cornish of the sixth conces-
sion west in Huron Township was
transferred to Owen Sound Gen-
eral and Marine Hospital on
Monday of this week. Jim was
taken to Kincardine and District
Hospital on Sunday evening,
April 9th. He is scheduled to
undergo surgery in Owen Sound.
Ripley and Huron friends wish
Jim well.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Bell of
London visited with Mrs. Donalda
Gossell in Ripley last Sunday.
At this time of writing Mrs.
Marion McCharles of Lochalsh is
a patient in Kincardine" and
District Hospital. Area folks wish
Marion a speedy recovery and
return home.
On Monday evening of last
week, April 10, the Happy Hearts
Club took a bus to Belmore for
their annual supper of pancakes,
maple syrup, and homemade
sausages.
The Bruce County Cattleman's
Association held their spring
dinner meeting in the Ripley
Complex on Monday evening last
with a large attendance.
Mr. Farquhar MacDonald of
Brampton visited on Thursday
and Friday with his mother, Mrs.
Mary (Donnie) MacDonald.
Mary and Milan Lasarevich of
Brantford visited Annetta and Bill
Robinson on Sunday.
Miss Connie Irwin of London
spent the weekend with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allan
Irwin.
Mrs. Donalda Moir, son Paul
and friend, Jeff Aldon, and
Wildon Robertson of Wingham
and Bob Robertson of the tenth
were recent visitors with Miss
Christena Robertson in Ripley.
Mrs. Gladys Mason, Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Forster, Mr. Currie
Colwell, Mr. and Mrs. Don
McCosh 'were recent guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Colwell of
Black Horse.
Congratulations go to Mrs. Ada
Farrell who celebrated her 87th
birthday on April 12th.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fitzsimmons
of Pinkerton, Joanne Ferguson,
Joyce and Teresa Farrell were
Monday visitors with Don and
Anne McCosh.

GRADE ONE
On Wednesday, April 12, we
were invited by Mrs. Hender-
son's Grade 7 class to come and
enjoy a puppet show, that had'
been written and produced by
them.
Clues were taken from the
magic bag for each play, and this
helped create a real interest with
the audience.
The plays were well done and
very much enjoyed by us all.
Thank you for a "terrific show"
Grade 7ers.
MUSIC FROM QUEBEC ,
On Tuesday, April 11, three
French people came from Mont-
real. They sang two songs and
had instruments such as the cello,"
recorder and a guitar. They
asked 5 ' u . ents to come up and
play with , em. They taught us
how to make the sound of rain
with our hands.
GRADE FIVE
The Grade 5 students are
taking a .study on Africa, Such
things involed are the countries,
bodies of ' water, vegetation,
physical features etc. They are
having a good time.
REMINDER
A reminder that "Open
House" is on the 19th with school
entertainment.
Ripley Happy Hearts

Nearly 80 persons attended the
Senior Citizen's meeting held at
the Legion Hall on April 14th.
Reg Moore chaired the meeting.
The minutes were read by Mrs.
Margaret Blue. A sing song was
led by. Reg Moore with Mrs.
MacKenzie at the piano.
Program conveners were Mrs.
Oliver McCharles and Mrs. Anne
Mason. Mrs. Olive Young who
was first organist at Huron
Church, Ripley, gave a musical
medley on the piano. Happy
Birthday was sung for Mrs.
Young, Mrs. Herb Farrell and
Jack Blue who had birthdays this
month.
A five act skit was conducted
and written by Mrs. Walter Lock
entitled. "We The Consumer".
Mrs. Bressee explained a book,

reading, entitled, "The Com-
plaint", was given by -Mary
Pollock.
The guest speaker was George
Brophy, lawyer, now practicing in
Lucknow, who spoke on "Con-
sumer Frauds", especially as
applies to Senior Citizens. He was
introduced by Mrs. O. McChar-
les.
Mrs. Ann Mason gave the
courtesy remarks and presented a
gift to Mr. Brophy. Reg Moore
expressed thanks to the commit-
tee in charge.
Lunch was served by Ann
McCosh, Frances Elliott, Muriel
Arnold, Katherine Irwin, Norma
McLennan. The clean up crew
were Lloyd Arnold and Oliver
McCharles.
RIPLEY 4-H BEEF CLUB
The first meeting of the 4-H
Beef Club was held April 11 at the
Ripley High School. Leaders are
Cecil Sutton and John Elliott.
Officers elected were Robbie
Sutton, president; Corinne Boyle,
vice, president; Mary Margaret
Smith, secretary; . Gary Rutledge,
press reporter.

The warmer weather has found the children of the village
skateboarding, playing street basketball, and riding bicycles. Todd
Ritchie, Lucknow, had his skateboard out fora spring run on the
main street sidewalk.
