during the month of March and
with each week the days are
getting longer.
The Anglican Church Women
carne to the home on Thursday,
March 2 and put on a bingo.
There was a large crowd and our
residents thoroughly enjoyed it.
The World Day of Prayer
service was held in the auditor-
ium on Friday, March 3 at 1.30
p.m. The theme for the service
was "Community Spirit in Mod-
ern Living". The speaker was
Mrs. Betty Weiler who .spoke on
the theme of r the day. The
churches represented were Angli-
can, Baptist, Lutheran, Pente-
costal, Presbyterian, United and
Roman Catholic.
On Tuesday, March 14th Mr.
Jerry Cassidy along with his choir
from Sacred Heart Senior School
and Mrs. Lyn Gray with her band
presented the residents with a
very lovely program. Mr. Cassidy
delighted everyone present with
the singing of many old Irish
songs.
The C.W.L. of Walkerton came
on Wednesday, March 15 to put
on their monthly bingo under the
convenership of Mrs. Teresa
Weiss. The high prizes were won
by Mrs. Martha McGill and Ted
Ellis and the low went to Mrs.
Sarah McTeer and Wm. Hields.
The Port Elgin United Church
Women put on the monthly
birthday party on Friday, March
17th. This being St. Patricks, all
those involved in the program
were clad in green. The welcome
and introductions were given by
Mrs. Grace Reany. Pianist was
Mrs. Ruth McKenzie. Mr. Bill
Reany sang a beautiful • solo,
"This Nearly Was Mine". Carol
Sutherland with her accordian
played some lovely Irish songs.
Joanne Boyd and Bill Reany sang
"Why Do I Love You". Little
Sheena Francis did an acrobatic
number..,Joanne Boyd with her
fine voice sang,. "Rose of Tralee
and.. Galloway., Bay". Cynthia
Wilson then danced the Highland
Fling. Grace Reany sang, "A
Daisy a Day", and "He Touched
Me". Mrs. Mel Black, Mrs.
Myrtle Upshall and Mrs. Angus
McIntosh each with a violin
played, "Mansion over the Hill"
and "Amazing Grace". Each of
.our birthday residents were
presented with a gift after which
everyone sang "Happy Birth-
day". Cake, ice-cream and juice
was then served which brought to
a close a most enjoyable after-
noon.
Tuesday, March 21st at 7.30
p.m. a musical group from
Chesley and Tara put on a very
interesting variety program. Rev.
R. F. Bennett, Anglican minister
from Chesley with his guitar, Roy
Slumskie with the banjo, Harold
Dobie, electric guitar and Keith
Elder, guitar, together played,.
"The Old Rugged Cross", Easter
Parade and many others.' Rev.
Bennett sang, "What a Friend
We Have in Jesus" especially for
Mrs. Madeline Burrows. Keith
Elder than sang, "One Day at a
Time and Folsom Prison Blues
and several others. The closing
• hymn with Rev. Bennett leading
and the residents joining in sang,
"The Lord is my Shepherd".
The Fisher family from Clifford
entertained the residents with a

musical Easter Program on Thur-
sday, March 23rd.
Movie slides of bus trips and
residents taken in 1977 and 1978
were shown. Onr residentsreally
enjoyed them as it brought back
many happy and pleasing memor-
ies.
The Ladies' Auxiliary to the
Legion, Branch 102, came on
Thursday, March 30th and put on
a Monster Bingo under the
convenership of Mrs. Verna
Clancy and her helpers.
We extend our deepest sym-
pathy to the families of Mrs.
. Minnie Parker and Harvey Neilly
who passed away during the
month of March.

The April meeting of White-
church W.I. was held April 12 in
the Community Memorial Hall
with a pot luck dinner, Mrs.
Russel McGuire opened the
meeting. She gave , a warm
welcome to all members and their
guests and Mrs. Martin, Stanley
Products demonstrator. Mrs. Mc-
Guire gave a Spring Poem. Mrs.
Martin then gave her demonstra-
tion of Stanley Products. Mrs.
McGuire was presented with a
glass plate and all were given the
choice of a gift. A contest was
conducted and won by Mrs. H.
Lewis and Mrs. Johnston Conn.
Mrs. Victor Emerson, alternate
District Director, gave the report
of the District Directors meeting
held at the Community Hall,
Silver Lake, March 28.

Congratulations to Mary Eadie,
concession 8, who was the winner
of the lovely afghan which the
Women's Institute had as a
project for a money raising ven-
ture to go towards the improve-
ment of the township hall at
Holyrood. During the winter the
W.I. also held euchre parties. On
Tuesday evening 7 tables were in
play and a most pleasant evening
was enjoyed. The high ladies'
prizes went to Mrs. Cliff Johnston
and Mrs. Cliff Murray. The 'twos
high gents were Barry Johnston
and Ellwood Elliott. The prize to
the lady who sold the most books
of tickets .on the afghan went to
Mrs. Alex Percy. The- Women's
Institute are grateful to all who
helped in every way throughout
the winter and also supported the
afghan project.
Mrs. Gertrude Walsh, who
spent the winter months in
Lucknow, returned to her home"
here during the week.
The Anglican Church Women
held their April meeting at the
church with Edna and May Boyle
hostesses. The ladies came early
for a quilting, the quilt being
completed during the afternoon.
The president, Mrs. Delbert
Hedley, was in charge of the
devotional. Mrs. Jack Scott, for
the scripture lesson, read three
parables. The meditations was
given by Mrs. Eric Thacker. The
minutes, correspondence and
financial statement were read by
Mrs. Ronald Thacker.
April 30th being the fifth
Sunday of the month there will be
a Special Parish Rogation Service
at Kinlough at 11 a.m., followed
by a fellowship hour and lunch-
eon. The committee to arrange for
this is Mrs. Delbert Hedley, Mrs.
Eric Thacker, Mrs. Roy Collins.
The meeting closed with prayer.
Mrs. Midford Wall gave the
courtesy remarks.' Refreshments
were served by the hostesses.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Murray.
and Mr. and Mrs. Miles O'Dona-
hue were guests at the Mehan-
Dales wedding at Smiths Falls.
The bride, the former Veronica
Dales is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Bob "Dales (nee Margaret
Ann Murray of here).
Sympathy is extended to Mr.
and Mrs. Reg Brown (nee Mary
Collison) in the death of her r,
father, the late. Thomas Collison.,
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Murray,
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Murray,
Charlie Murray and their sister
(Veronica), Mrs. Keith McCarter,
went to Preston to the funeral of
their uncle,. the late Thomas
Collison.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mehan were
here on their wedding trip and
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Charlie
Murray and other relatives. We.
extend congratulations to the
newlyweds.
Nice to have Mr. and Mrs.
Maurice Hodgins back to their
home on concession 10 after
.spending the winter at Lakeland,
Florida. On Sunday they were
dinner guests of Mr.. and Mrs.
Bert Nicholson and also visited
relatives and friends here.
Tanya Haldenby, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Barry Haldenby, is
a patient in Wingham Hospital.
Friends were glad to know that
Mr. Arthur Graham returned to
his home from Wingham Hospit-
al.
Mrs.. Arthur Breckles and
infant daughter, Vanessa, return-
ed home. Congratulations to the
proud parents and a hearty
welcome to the "wee" girl.
