COUNCIL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN .[C.E.C.]
The °Huron -Perth Chapter of
C.E.C, has, planned an interesting
and varied program for its
members and anyone interested
in the education of exceptional
children. The October meeting
took the form of a pot luck supper
at Upper Thames Elementary
School in Mitchell and the
speaker was Susan Berry, who
works in Infant Stimulation for,
the K -W Habilitation, Services for
the Retarded. It is felt that by
working with children as infants
as soon as the retardation is
diagnosed and by training the
parents how to carry out stimulat-
ing activities, that their ability to
learn may be increased.
The November meeting was
held in Victoria School, Goderich
and Dr. David Walker, .G.P..gave
an interesting address on "Pre-
scribed Drugs and Classroom
Performance". This was a timely
topic since an increasing number
of children are called hyperactive
and sometimes it seems as if the
only way they can function in a
classroom is when taking some
medication in the form of
prescribed drugs. Great care
needs to be taken in theuse of
drugs and more research is
needed.
