Annual Competition Held at
Blyth, with Large Field of
Competitors
Clinton, June 14.—The annual
Huron county live stock judging com-
petition was held today, with sixty
junior farmers under twenty-seven
years competing. Ian McLeod, county
agricultural representative, who bad
charge of the competition, stated
that today's event was the most suc-
cessful In its history.
Judging was done un farms in the
vicinity of 'Blyth—Yorkshire sows at
Norman Sanderson's; Jersey cattle
and bacon tags at Alex. McEwing's;
draft horses at Demean McCallum's;
Clydesdale mares at Joseph Grey's;
Shorthorn cattle at Frank Woods' ;
sheep at Orville Mc4iowan's. The
supervising judges were: G. R. Pat-
terson, Bruce county representative,
dairy cattle; R. 8. McKercber, Dub-
lin, beef cattle; C. D. Graham, Perth
county representative, horses; T. S
Cooper, Grey county representative,
sheep; H. L. Atkinson, Clinton, swine.
Wins Silver Cup
The silver cup for the highest boy
In tbe competition was won by Last
year's runner -cap, William Pepper,
Seaforth, with 1174 points oat of a pos-
sible 750. Fred. McQuillan, Lucknow,
secured second piece and a silver
medal with 071 points, while the
shield donated by the C. N. Exhibi-
tion for the highest novice was won
by Harold Lobb, Clinton, with 060
points. - --

Matheson -MacKay clan was held in
Harbor Park on Saturday afternoon.
The members arrived In the morning,
and by noon•tlme nearly seventy-five
were present. Dinner was served In
the pavilion.

Eckert, Treasurer Erskine stated that
there had been no reduction in the
interest rate of five per cent. at the
bank. Reeve Eckert thought there
should be a reduction, as savings In-
terest had been cut.
Children's Aid Inspector
When council convened on H ednes-
day morning, H. T. Edwards, inspec-
tor of the Children's Aid Society,
gave au oral report, stating that nine
children had been placed ou proba-
tion In foster homes as a result of
advertlehtg in county papers and the
"adopt -a -baby" week. Eight remained
In the Shelter, but Mr. Edwards ex-
plained it was difficult to find homes
fur them owing to certain defects.
Mr. Edwards pointed with pride to
Ole fact that Lois Cameron, "Little
Miss Huron," who was adopted by
the county last year, is making won-
derful progress. The little _girl, who
weighed just six pounds Last year
when she was taken over by the coun-
ty, now weighs sixteen pounds and L
a bright child.
The inspector explained, in reply
to a query by Reeve Eckert, that the
Shelter here received a low grading
from the Department because it was
not being used as a "clearing house"
—that la, a temporary refuge for
children until homes are found for
them. Shelters are frowned upon by
