Ripley District School
ELEMENTARY BASKETBALL
The Bruce County Basketball
tournament was held on Satur-
day, April 8. Ripley District teams
won their first and' third games
but lost their second and fourth,
placing fourth in the standings.
The intramural basketball play-
offs last week saw Wendy Hamil-
ton's team win the girls' division.
The team consisted of Heather
MacDonald, Ann Courtney, Joc-
elyne Poirier, Marlene Huston
and Joan Osborne.
The runners up were Cheryl
McGarvey's team consisting of
Debbie Zipfel, Joanne Pollock,
Cathy Nugent and Gail MacDon-
ald.
Chris' Garvey's team took first
place in the boys' competition.
His team included Mike Rowland,
Greg Rose, Jeff McTavish, John
Drzazga and Philip Trepanier.
The boys' runners, up were Jeff
Rouse's team including Mike
Pollock, Erroll Lunday, Jamie
Gallant and Larry Needham.

This week the R.D.S.
students came back to school
looking forward to a very
exciting week,
On Wednesday, March 29th
spirit week began with an old
fashioned.day, .hot dog eating
contest and a surprise event.
The best dressed girl and boy
were Gail MacDonald and
Tom Wilson, John Drzazga
won the hot dog eating contest
by eating 9 hot dogs in 10
minutes. The surprise event
was to see how many people
could fit into a Vega. The
students managed to squeeze
21 people into the car.
Thursday, March 30th was
Mafia day at R.D:S. The team
events for that day were -
kidnapping a teacher, arm
and leg wrestling and tugj°of
war. Each team got points for
each teacher they kidnapped.

war. The winners of the arm
wrestling was Jeff Rouse and
the winner of the leg
wrestling was Chris
McGarvey, both of the team

were Mary Ann Coiling and

Friday, March 31st was
hillbilly day. The best dressed
girls and boys were Helen
Culbert, Mary Kempton, Ron
Lotton and Kevin Pembleton.
A dance at noon hour wound
up a successful spirit week.
INTRAMURAL CURLING
The intramural curling
playoffs began last week. The
winning, ..,team was Robert
Regier's team which con-
sisted of Robert Regier - skip,
Mr. Laflair - vice, Eoin
MacKay - second, ' Susan
Dawson - lead.

The report cards will be
coming around on April 5,
1978 so parents brace your-

Field Trip
Mrs. Shewfelt's and Mr.
Price's classes are going on a-
field trip to the Sugar Bush.

the pupils went back to
school.
Spring is coming
With the coming of
Spring everyone is trying to
get outside without boots on.
Also "Square Ball" is
becoming populaf .

The R.D.S. students'
council received the pew
sound syitem for the school
this past week.
News
Last week the floor hockey
schedule started at noon
hour. There are four girls'
teams and four boys' teams;
each one hoping to win the
tabs.
There was a hockey game
between the girls' teams of
grades 7-8 and grades 5-6. The
score was 3-2 for grades 7-8.

"YE OLD PIONEERS"
As a follow up to the Sugar
Bush tour the grade 2s in Mrs.
Shewfelt's class are interested in
other pioneer skills and ways of
living. If there are any parents or
friends in our area who would be
willing to bring an antique. or
craft into the class, for a short
discussion, please call Mrs.
Shewfelt at the, school, 395-2651.
Possibly some of the Senior
Citizens would like to come to tell
tales about their early days.

made the bulletin board. for
Spring. the scene is entitled,
"Spring Activities and Days".
SWIM ON
Mrs. Peterbaugh's and Mrs.
Huston's grade 4 classes started
taking swimming lessons on April
4,1978. These lessons are on
Tuesdays and Thursdays at the
Kincardine ' Community Centre.
To those who take the lessons
"Happy Swimming" but don't
drown.

At Ripley -Huron Central School
we hare having a contest to pick a
name for our weekly column,
which you 'are now reading. This
is how it goes, each class sends 3
names to out' room. We pick three
from those and then we pick the
winner. You will see our new
name soon.
OPEN HOUSE
On Wednesday, the 19th Rip-
ley -Huron Central School will be
having their Open House. It will
start at 7.00 p.m. and end at 9.00
p.m. The school choir will be
performing.
Back from
a holiday
r On the 27th of February,
Dana Clampitt and her
family left for Florida. They
got home just in time for the
March Break, so she had a
long holiday.
