Last week the public speaking
finals sponsored by this area zone
of the Royal Canadian Legion
were held. Congratulations go to
Tommy Wilson, son of Delbert
and Maithel Wilson of the fourth
concession, on winning his class.
Earlier this year he won in the
Ripley and area local competition
sponsored by the Ripley Huron
Legion branch here.
A dew' business place opened
last Friday on the east side of
Ripley's main street. The Arcade
features, fun games.
A community shower was -held
last Saturday afternoon for Miss
Shirley McCreath R..N., daughter
of Bill and Helen McCreath of
Ripley, in the Knox Presbyterian
Church Sunday School room.
Mr. and Mrs.' Donald A.
Campbell of the fourth concession
east in Huron Township were in
Toronto this past weekend at the
wedding of their daughter, Pat-
ricia. Tish was honoured by
having the head of the Campbell
Clan in Canada play the bagpipes
at her wedding.
William Robert Farrell, native
of the Bethel area of Huron
Township, passed away last
Tuesday, April 4, 1978 in
Brucelea Haven in Walkerton.
The funeral service was conduct-
ed last Thursday afternoon it the
Ripley MacKenzie -McCreath
Funeral Home. Sympathy is
extended at this time of bereave-
ment to the family.
Mrs. Gladys Arnold, Mrs.
Clara .Shiells, and. Mrs. Norma
MacLennan accompanied Reg
Moore to London on Monday of
last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Robert
Lowry of the 10th concession of
Huron Township celebrated their
40thwedding anniversary at a
party at their daughter, Audrey's
home in Ripley - Mr. and Mrs.
Roddy MacDonald - last Satur-
day.
Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Maclntosh
of St. Thomas spent the Easter
weekend with his sister, Margar-
et and husband, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Scott in Ripley.
Last Friday evening, April 7,
1978, Jack McLean of Ripley
passed away in Kincardine and
District Hospital where he had
been a patient since last summer
except for a. brief period back
home in Ripley] ympathy of the
folks here goes to all members of
the family at this time of
bereavement.
Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Don•
McCosh in Ripley last Sunday
were Mr. Currie Colwell and
daughter, Anne, of South Kin-
loss, Mrs. Gladys Mason of
Ripley, Walter and Isabelle
Forster, Kathy and Johnny of
Huron Township.
Sympathy of Ripley and Huron
friends is extended to Mr.
William Walsh of Kincardine and
family on the sudden death last
week of his wife - the former
Frances Emmerton. Sympathy is
also extended to members of the
Emmerton family.
The Purple Grove W.I. held
their annual meeting and hot
dinner last • Wednesday at the
home of Mrs. Donald Reid.
Mr. Murray Ribey and his
mother, Mrs. Rhoda Ribey, of the
Underwood area, visited her
si ter, Mrs. Martha MacIver, in
Ripley and other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Emerson
visited with his son and wife, Dr.
and Mrs. Goldie Emerson, and
family in London last weekend.
Mrs. Wanda Gawley of Purple
Grove and Mrs. Donalda Gossell
of Ripley accompanied Mr. and
Mrs: Donald Craig of Kincardine
Township to Sudbury. They
attended the funeral of their
cousin, Don; Grieves, of Monet
ville.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Forster
returned home last Wednesday
after vacationing for the past two
months in Florida.
Mrs. Cameron MacAuley is
recovering in University Hospital,
London after undergoing surgery.
Friends in the Ripley area wish
her well.
Last Wednesday afternoon
Gladys and Elmer Wylds of
Kincardine visited in Ripley.
Home to Ripley this week is
Brian MacDonald from Fraser -
dale in far Northern Ontario.
Brian is visiting with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Kenny MacDonald
and members of the family. Last
Sunday he had his horse and
buggy out for a drive much to the
delight of the little kids getting
rides with Brian.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Campbell of
Amberley, Mrs. Frances Elliott
and Mrs. Marjorie Reid of Ripley
visited last Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Murray Hewitson in Mea -
ford and with Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Watson in Durham.
Mrs. Nancy Greenwood and
baby Joel spent Monday and
Tuesday visiting with her sister-
in-law, Miss Karen Greenwood in
Toronto.
Sympathy of Ripley folks is
extended to Graham Cook on the
passing of his father, last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnston,
Julie and Jennifer returned to
their home in Ripley from a three
week vacation in Florida.
Mr. Elliott Lowry underwent
surgery in Thornhill on Tuesday
this week. Friends wish Elliott a
speedy recovery, Visitors with
him this past Sunday were his
sister Corinne and husband and
family, Mr. and Mrs. • Gene
Mordaunt, Nathan and Matthew,
of West Hill; ' Toronto; • his
brothers and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Perrin Lowry, Robbie,

Kendra -Trina; Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Lowry, Kris and Greg;
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Thompson,
Kenneth, Janine, Adrienne and.
Keith; and his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Elden Lowry of Huron Villa,
Ripley and Mr. Ben Farrell,` who
had just returned from North
Vancouver where he spent .the
winter.
Mr. and Mrs. David Lowry
entertained the Hunter family: It
was Paul's first birthday party.
Mr. Murray Elston, B.A.,
LL.B. of the law firm of Crawford,
Mill and Davies, Wingham, is
now at the Ripley . office on
Wednesday afternoons. Mr. Els-
ton is known to many sport fans in
is survived by two sisters,
Belgrave, Bluevale and Wingham
teams. Mr. Ross Davies, who has
been serving the Ripley office for
the past seven years will continue
to come to Ripley on Friday.
And finally, the Animal Control
truck went through the village on

RIPLEY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
A pot luck luncheon was held at
Mrs. Donnie MacDonald's home
prior to the Ripley Women's
Institute annual meeting. The
president, Mrs. Ross Cumming,
'called on all conveners for their
annual reports.
Achievement Day for 4-H
Homemaking clubs will be held in
Ripley at the Recreation Centre
on April 22nd. The club on
"Consider Your Clothes" was led
by Mrs. Nick Peet and Mrs. John
Gamble. Members were invited
to Southampton Wednesday, Ap-
ril 9th to "Community Count
Down" course.
Mr. and Mrs. McMillan, Rip-
ley, will lead the 4-H club on
"Outdoor Living", inc,luding
camping. Cancer pamphlets were
given out and members will
collect this week for the cancer
society.
1979 will be the 75th anniver-
sary year for Ripley W.I. Ideas for
celebrating should be presented
to the president.

ed making an oven door hand
towel.

ers at the tuck shop. Mrs. Walter

will be the sick committee. Mrs.
Roy MacKenzie and Mrs. Donnie
MacDonald acted as nominating
committee. Mrs. James Kirkpat-
rick thanked the retiring officers.
Mrs. Lock, the new president,
was welcomed, gave the courtes-
ies and asked the executive to
meet to plan the next year's
program.
