March winds which have con-

The new president, Mrs. Pat
Howard took the chair. She urged
members to attend the diocesan
convention in London. Plans were
discussed for the Cancer drive.
Rita Howard, Marion Austin and
Betty Frayne volunteered to be in
charge. Following the meeting, a
social hour was enjoyed.
Thankofferiug held in the base-
ment of the Presbyterian Church
in Teeswater on Friday evening.
Mrs. Grace Richardson, who is on
a four month leave from Zambia,
South Africa, where she is a
teacher at the mission school
there, showed slides and gave a
talk on the work being done there.
The first Holyrood Girl Guides
held a Brownie Fly Up at their
meeting Wednesday evening
when Brownie, Terry Lynn John-
son, flew up to be a Guide. The
girls' mothers attended the Fly
Up.
We are pleased to report that
Mrs. Elmer Scott who is a patient
in K.W. Hospital, Kitchener, is
improving satisfactorily.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Scott
have returned to their home in
Culross after spending the winter
in Florida . where they had an
enjoyable time.
Mrs. Graham Moffat of Culross
is now a resident of Maitland
Manor, Goderich. Graham, who
is now staying with his. daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Conley of
Guelph, plans to take up resid-
ence there also as soon as there is
a vacancy. We hope they will
enjoy staying there. Graham and
his daughters Marilyn, Winnie
and Beatrice called on friends in
Teeswater and were out to
Graham's home in Culross to see
how everything had come through
the winter there,
Mrs. Bill Bates and Mrs. Bruce
Bates and girls visited with Mrs.
Graham Moffat at Goderich one
day last week.
We are sorry to report that a
fire at the farm of Mr. and Mrs.
Peter Scheurwater on the 4th of
Culross late Saturday night
destroyed their large barn and
also their herd of cows.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Miller and
family visited over the weekend in
Kitchener.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Boyle
and family were hosts on Sunday
for a birthday party for Fred
Fowler of Kitchener. Attending
were Mrs. Fowler and her sister,
Mrs. Aurel Armstrong and Aurel,
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Armstrong,
Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Armstrong
and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne
Armstrong.
On Sunday evening the Boyle
family had as guests the Junior
Citizens, an interdenominational
meeting of your people. Kathy
and Margie Nugent of Ripley
were in charge of the program.
Weekend visitors with Mr. and
Mrs, Francis Boyle and family
were Bonnie Boyle of London and
Kerry Boyle of Hamilton and
Mike Di Giogovanni of Kitchener.
The first meeting of the 4 -FI
Horse Club was held April 6 at
the home of the leaders, Joyce
and John Farrell. Officers elected
were Ian Elliott, president;
Shawn Coiling, vice president;
Robbie Sutton, secretary; Kevin
Boyle, treasurer. Books were
handed out to about seven
members and the requirements of
the club were explained.
Overnight visitors on Saturday
with Mr. and Mrs. Garry Farrell
and Sarah was Philip MacDonald
of Kincardine Township.
Mr. and Mrs. Barry Johnston,
Lynden and Andrew visited on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Victor
Gawley.
Mrs. Victor Gawley recently
accompanied Mrs. Ellis Goessel
and Mr. and Mrs. Don Craig to
Sudbury. They attended the
funeral of Mrs. Goessel's neph-
ew, Mr. Donald Greave at
Monetville.
This week Mrs. Don Robertson
is spending a few days ' at a
Presbyterian Church meeting in
Leamington.
A number from Purple Grove
attended the annual spring dance
in Ripley sponsored by the Ripley
Agricultural Society.

Last Wednesday the members
of the Purple Grove Women's
Institute met for a pot luck dinner
at the home of Mrs. Don Reid. It
was the annual meeting and
election of officers and a welcome
was given to Mrs. Don Forster, a
new member.
Yearly reports of all commit-
tees were given and motions for
the comingyear were' stated.
Mrs. Don McCosh conducted an
entertaining game. The next
meeting will be a Sunshine Sister
banquet at the community centre.

With the arrival of the milder
weather this week the sap is
running and,maple syrup making
is the order of the day. Don Dore
and Jack Farrell are among those
who have some trees tapped.
Members of the Men for
Missions group, their wives and
friends met at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Cecil Sutton last
Wednesday evening: Mr. Ritchie
Penhall from Carlisle introduced
the speaker, Mr. Bill Spate from
Quito, Ecuador. Mr. Spate is a
missionary in Ecuador and spoke
on his work in that country.
On Sunday evening the Coup-
le's Club of this area. enjoyed a
pot Iuck dinner at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Cecil Sutton. Discussion
afterwards'. was led by Bill and
' Marg Van Rooyen.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Elliott and
Ia i joined Mr. and Mrs. John
Farrell and Teresa at their home
for Sunday supper.
Mrs. Joyce Farrell entertained
the community Bible Study group
last Tuesday morning.

Forster welcome them home from
Florida after spending the winter

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Collins,
Jennifer, Angela and David
visited on Sunday with Mr. Earl
Hutchinson and Samantha of
Kincardine. Susan Hutchinson
and new baby, Darcy, are
expected home from hospital this
week. Also visiting in the same
home were new grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Green, from
Arthur.
Recent visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Farrell were Mr. and
Mrs. Darryl Gppaul, Tanya and
Laura of London..Also visiting at
their parents' home were Susan
and Courtney MacDonald of
London. The city visitors enjoyed
a trip by team and sleigh to
help make maple syrup at Jack's
bush,
Also visiting the bush and
helping make syrup were Bob,
Maryanne and John Forster,
Mark Johnston and David and
Billy Patterson.
Garry, Laura and Sarah Farrell
visited on Sunday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Jake Smith of
Underwood and attended a bridal
.shower for Laura's cousin, Dana
Morgan of Clinton.
Shirley, Andrew, Sheena and
Stephanie MacDonald spent the
weekend in London. Accompany-
ing them was Mrs. Melville
Pollock who visited her husband
in St. Joseph's Hospital. . Friends
here wish Mel a good recovery
from recent surgery.
Brian Gamble of the sixth
concession visited Rob Farrell on
the weekend.
On Saturday, April 1, Jack and
Jim Farrell ' hosted the annual
spring barn meeting -of the Bruce
County Holstein Club. About fifty
visitors attended and toured the
modern dairy barn before taking
part in a competition led by Mr.
Gordon Bell, area fieldman of the
Holstein Friesian Association. Dr.
Hugh Clugston, a United Breed-
ers veterinary consultant,
brought information for the
members. Leslie Weber and Ken
Holtby were winners of two door
prizes donated by U.C.O. of
Kincardine.
Congratulations to the Ripley
Junior Farmers whose one -act
play took first place in the
Provincial Drama competition on
Saturday in Fergus. Barry Currah
of Kincardine also won the best.
supporting actor award.
Visiting at her home 'on the
weekend was Janice Farrell of
London.
Callers at Jack Farrell's on
Sunday were Mr. Jim Scott and
Barry, Susan and Brian Cliffe of
Ripley.

Agnes Lyons returned home
this week after spending some
time in the hospital in London.
Get well wishes are sent to her.
Wilhelmine Rutherford has
been transferred from the Wing -
ham and District Hospital to
Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home.
Bill Humphrey has been trans-
ferred from Wingham and Dist-
rict Hospital to Pine Lodge after
recovering from head injuries.
Recent visitors with), Mr. and
Mrs. Wayne Todd and family
were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moody
and Jason of Wingharn.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Cranston
enjoyed the company of *Mr. and
'Mrs, Wayne Grigg and family of
Kitchener.
