Mr. Tom O'Neill was admitted to the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich on Monday, April 3. She was transferred to Victoria Hospital in London the following day. Her many friends wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Desmond O'Donnell was released from the Alexandra Marine and. General Hospital, Goderich on Tuesday, April 4. He is convalescing at his home here. Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Mr. Alvin Charles Alton who passed away in the Wingham and District Hospital on, Wednesday, April 5 in his 53rd year. Congratulations to Eugene and Ralph Austin, sans ,.of Mir and Mrs. John Austin, R. ' R. 7 Lucknow, who were co -winners in the $1000.00 Lucknow District Community Centre Lottery- draw held on Wednesday, April 5. Congratulations to Mary Eliza • beth (Beth) Wisser, daughter of Mr: and Mrs. Ronald Wisser and to Alfred Mawhinney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mawhinney, who were married in St. Joseph's Church, Kingsbridge' on Friday, April 7. Several from this area attended the Knights of Columbus Annual Bluebird Ball held at the Saltford Valley Hall on Saturday, April 8. The proceeds are for the Arthritic Society. Plans are being made for;!9 cal talent to take part in the\Spring Variety Night program to be held. at St. Mary's School, Goderich. Congratulations to Mary Lu- anne Clare, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Clare, R. R. 7 Lucknow, who was the first prize . winner in the Lion's. Club A9 Effective Speaking competition held in Lucknow on Friday, April 7. Her topic was "The Holy Land". Second prize winner was Brenda Merman of Palmerston speaking on "Individuality". Congratulations also goes to Tom Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Wilson: of Ripley, who won first place in the boys' divisionspeaking on "Counterfeit Money". Second ,prize was won by Tim Morrison of -Wingham who spoke on "Outdoors Can- ada". Chairman for the program was Mr. Howard Henderson of Owen Sound. Judges were Ms,, Sharon Dietz, Editor of the Lucknow Sentinel, Mrs. Mabel Wheeler, teacher at the Lucknow Public School and Charles Liddle, teacher at Brookside Public School. Mary Luanne was spon- sored by the Wingham Lions Club. The first and second prize winners in the Lion's Club Effective Speaking competitions held at Lucknow ,advanced to the District Level held in the Arthur High School on Saturday, April 8. French girls and boys competi- tions were also included. The chairman was Mr. Howard Hend-s erson of Owen Sound. Only first place winners were named. In the English Boys' competitions Paul Coates of Owen Sound placed first, speaking on "Euthanasia". In the Englis Girls' competitions Carol Bunting of Hanover placed first speaking on "A Tribute to Parents". In the French compe- titions Douglas Cameron of Port Elgin won first prize speaking on "Provincial Parks in Canada". Catherine McGinnis of Owen Sound placed first in the French Girls' division, speaking on "Bilingualism'. The winners from Ontario, Quebec and Labra- dor will now compete in the A9 Lion's Club Effective Speaking competitions taking place in Sudbury on Saturday, May 6th with the winners speaking at the Annual Lions Convention to be held this year in Bramalea. Congratulations to Tommy Gil- more, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gilmore who won first prize in the Boys' Intermediate (ages 7 to 10) Baton Twirling at the Bramalea Spring Batonfest held in Brama- lea on Sunday, April 9. Grade .13 students from i this area are attending special classes held at the Knox Presbyterian Church in Goderich on Tuesday and Thursday, while the Grade 12 students attend classes on Mon- day and Wednesday mornings at the Goderich Arena. Parents are assisting with the guidance. Education Week is being held at St. Joseph's School, Kings- bridge from Sunday, April 16 to Saturday, April 22. Parents are invited to come to the school at thisGrades 3 and 4 classes were bused for swimming classes at .Kincardine on Friday afternoon, April 7 ftp 1.30 until 2.15. KINGSBRIDGE C.W.L. The Kingsbridge Catholic Women's . League held their annual meeting in St. Joseph's Parish. Hall, Kingsbridge on Monday evening, April 3. Father Dentinger, C.R. opened the meeting with prayer and a reading from St. James. Church Life convener, Mrs. Ann Berry, reported that Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. Vogt were presented with a 25th anniversary giftFMinutes of the last meeting were read by Clarice Dalton. Dolores VanOsch read the correspondence which included a thank you from Girl Guide leader, Rochelle Cham- , pagne. The. treasurer's ,report was read by Mary Clare. Clarice Dalton read,a letter received from Murray Gaunt concerning "Porn- ography i the Schools". Jean VanRooy 'eported on Catering. Tina VanDiepan reporting on Cultural Life, spoke on Mary Luanne Clare's success in Public Speaking, having recently won at Harriston and going on to Owen Sound. On St. Patrick's Day, members visited with Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Higgins, Mrs. Louis Dalton and Mrs. Wamsley at the Pinecrest Nursing Home, Lucknow. For Pro -Life, -Teresa Courtney men- tioned the Variety Night program being held at St. Mary's School, Goderich. Grace Austin told members the following coffees should- not be purchased: Maxim, Maxwell -House, Sanka, Yuban,,_ and Brim. Profits from these coffees aid Ida Amin. Mary Clare collected from members present for the 1% luxury tax. In his message to the members, Father Dentinger thanked all the ladies for the past years work - particularly the executive for their efforts and co-operation. Father thanked the ladies who had worked on the fight against Pornography by mailing letters. 200 letters have been sent to C.W.L.'s, school board members, principals, church groups, etc. Father felt parental objection was Most effective. Another paper drive will be held in June. Father stressed the importance of visit- ing the sick and thanked all those who perform this charity. Marion Austin, president, thanked the executive and con- veners and Father Dentinger for their work and support during the past two years. Ann Berry then thanked Marion and presented her with the past president's pin. Nominations were held for the new executive.
