On March 7, the Lucknow
Atoms travelled to Ripley to
play the Atom "B" team.
After playing nearly two
full periads of hockey,
Lucknow scored late in the
period to take a.lead. The two
teams . traded - third period
goals and Lucknow came
home victorious by a 2-1
score. Brad Priestap scored
both Lucknow goals with
Chris Irwin getting two
assists and Chris Collyer one.
On March 13 Lucknow
played hosts to a team of
Kincardine Houseleague
Atoms. Lucknow scored in all
three periods to skate off with,
a 4-1 win.
Chris Irwin, Chad Mann,
scored twice and Billy Card
once with Ricky Bechard,
Brian De Grotte, Ross
Pickard, Alex 'West, Todd
Ritchie and John Mackenzie
getting one assist each,
On March 25 the Lucknow
arena was the sight of the
Atom Western entario Grant
Championship. The local
team played Harriston in the
first game and were beaten
by a 5-2 score. Lucknow's
goals were scored by Todd
Ritchie and Billy Card with
Jeff Gibson, Chris Irwin and
Alex West each getting one
assist.
The loss left Lucknow in the
running for the consolation
trophy. Due to the fact only
five teams participated
Lucknow played a team from
Lion's Head in the consolation
final.
The home team wasted
little- time in going after the
win as they scored ten goals
before Lion's Head scored
their lone goal. With the clock
showing only four seconds left

competed in the Ontario High

The Atoms have two games
this week and a tournament
in Mildmay this weekend
which. should finish their
season for this year.
On Friday, March 31st,
Lucknow hosted Belgrave in
an exhibition game. After
playing nearly two periods of
scoreless hockey, Belgrave
scored two goals. Scoring by
Belgrave in the third period
carried, the visitors to a 3-0
win. -
On Saturday, Lucknow
travelled to Mildmay to
compete in the 19th annual
Atom Tournament. Lucknow
played against Drayton in
their opening game.

first peiod on a goal by Todd
Ritchie with Grant Murray
getting the assist. Danny
Gilchrist and Todd Scharlach
held the Drayton team off the
scoresheet to register a 1-0
shutout for the local lads. .
In the second game,
Lucknow played against
"Teeswater and came out
victorious by a 3-0 score.
Todd Ritchie had a goal and
assist as did Ross Pickard.
Chris Irwin scored the other
Lucknow goal. Single assists
went to Ricky Bechard, Steve
Hamilton, Brian De Groote
and Grant Murray.
In order to get to the
championship game Lucknow
had to win the third game
played against Thornton.
After being tied at 1-1 early in
the final period, Lucknow ran
into penalty trouble. Playing
two men short with less than
a minute left in regulation
time, Thornton scored to win
the game. 2-1.
Grant Murray scored the
lone Lucknow goal with
assists going to Brian De
Groote and Todd Ritchie.
This loss ended the 1977-78
hockey season for the
Lucknow lads.
The players, coaches and
manager wouldlike to thank
the parents for their time and
travel arrangements during
the year as well as the
spectators who turned out to
the•games.
Lucknow Midgets
On March 23 the Lucknow
Midgets got a late invitation
to compete in the Wingham
Midget tournament. They
competed in the C division,
one higher than their normal
category.
The first game against
Stayner went right down to
the wire and into overtime.
Stayner scored with six
seconds left in the overtime to
"tie the game 4-4, but Lucknow
won on shots 11-8... Stayner
went on to win the "C"
consolation title.
Late in the day Lucknow
took on Dresden. Dresden
opened up very quickly
leading 5-1 at one time. The
Lucknow squad consistantly
worked hard and with a
minute to go tied the score 8-
8.
With a minute to go in the
overtime period, ' Dresden
scored to knock Lucknow out
of the tournan.ent cham-
pionship round. The Lucknow
squad put up one of their
better showings of hockey
against these larger centres.
