Ripley Skating Carnival
The 4th annual Ripley and
District Lions Skating Car-
nival was held on Saturday,
March 18, at the Community
Centre in Ripley. Following is
a list of prize winners in the

For the first in a long time,
the Ripley Pee Wee team
brought home a trophy from
the Goderich Young Canada
Tournament, defeating
Tiverton in the final game for
the Consolation Trophy, . D
division.
In the first game, Blyth
defeated Ripley 3-1, with
Kevin Boyle and Terry Irwin
combining for Ripley's only
goal 'in the second period to
tie the game, but Blyth went.
ahead 2 unanswered goals in
the third period.
In the second game Ripley
fired 7 goals in the third.
period to win 9-2 over Howick.
Mike Moore scored in the first
period from Shawn Morrison
to tiethe game 1-1, and Kevin
Boyle shot the only goal in the
second period, from Eric
vander Glas and Terry Irwin.
The third period was all
Ripley, with Howick scoring
once. Kevin Boyle scored
twice unassisted, and one
from Terry Irwin and Larry
Coiling. Terry Irwin shot two
goals, one from Kevin Boyle
and the other from Larry
Coiling and Eric ' Vander
Glas. Mike Nicholson scored
unassisted, and Larry Coiling
beat the goalie on a pass from
Paul Harris and Shawn
Morrison.
Ripley played Little Britain
in the consolation D semi-
finals, and fell behind 2-0 in
the first four minutes. They
had to come from behind until
the last minute and a half of
the second period, when they
went ahead 43, going on to
win 7-4. They controlled play
well in the third period, with
the defence playing ex-
tremely well.
It was Tiverton vs Ripley in
the final game. Tiverton
played very well against
Ripley, and held the lead 1-0
until midway ink the third
period, when Ripley tied it up.
Ripley went ahead by one
goal shortly after, only to
have Tiverton 'tie it again.
Ripley went ahead with less
than 3 minutes left, and were
able to hang on for the win
and claim the Consolation D
trophy.
Players, coaches and
manager would like to thank
fans for the terrific support
they received in the final two
games. Goal scorers. are
unavailable at this time, as
teams do - not get a game
sheet.
,In Atom "B;' exhibition
play, Ripley played Clifford
to a 5 all tie. Clifford led the
scoring with 4 goals in the.
first period, until with 11
seconds to go, Brian Barnes
scored from Jeff Gamble and
David Cook. In the second,
John Forster opened scoring
on a pass from Ross Farrell,
and Jeff Godfrey fired 2
unassisted goals. John
Forester again scored from
Jeff Godfrey, with Clifford
getting the last goal of the
period. Both teams played
well in the third period, but
neither were able to score.
