Mrs. Beirnes is the former Hilda Emerson. Kevin Morrison of Melbourne spent last week here with Donnie and Carol Fludder, Tammy and Jason, Glen Harris, also with Joe and Mary Fludder and Cathy, with Jack and Evelyn Johnson and also visited with John and Jan Fludder and family. On the Tuesday evening supper hour show on CKNX television last week, farm reporter Cliff Robb had Mrs. Marion McCharles of the Lochalsh ,area as a guest. This was the second time for Mrs. McCharles as early in March she told about China painting and displayed some of her painted dishes. This time Marion gave some in- teresting experiences which fhe has had as a judge at fall airs. After attending judging schools held in Hamilton and Guelph, she was appointed one of ow departmental judges in Nkrrthern Ontario starting under past director F.A. Lushley and has con- tinued under the present directors E.A. Starr and A.J. Peppin and as well she is invited to do several fairs each year in Southern Ontario. Miss Linda Rauwerda and Mr. Jim McGrath of Hagersville called in Ripley on Friday afternoon. They called around at his grand- mother's. Ripley folks are glad to learn that Mrs. Muriel MacAuley and Mrs. Gayle Bell were able to return home to the village after a period of treatment in Kincardine_ and District hospital, alsii that Mrs. • Gladys Arnold is recoverinsr from surgery at St. Joe's in London. They were sorry to learn that Allan Irwin suffered a severe crushed hand whild working with farm implements at the Stuart Reavie Machinery firm in Lucknow where he is employed. Last Friday evening shortly after eleven, when the hockey team arrived back from Goderich, a victory parade formed up at the Ripley Huron fireball. Headed by the truck with its red lights flashing and siren sounding and followed by a number of carrs carrying fans_and players, the parade toured the streets, For the second time this winter area hockey fans were able to see Dave Farrish of Lochalsh playing in the Saturday night game in Maple Leaf Gardens. Dave, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Fairish of Lochalsh has a regular shift on the New York Ranger's defence. It was a fast rugged game with the Rangers in control winning 5- 2 Shortly after ten on- Tuesday riTuesday evening, March 21, the unexpected sound of a train whistle was heard. This ensures that an asset accumulated through the efforts of both spouses while they were married can be shared equally by both when the marriage is dissolved. Retroactive ent of Retirement enefits. Retirement benefits may now be paid retroactively fora period of up.to<12 months to contributors who had attained age 65 - but who are undef{ge 70 and who have retired from the labour force. Post -Mortem Benefits. Applications for retroactive benefits (Le, up to 12 months) can now be made on behalf of a deceased person, in cases where a contributor qualified, but failed to apply, before death. Families or estates will be entitled to receive benefits in such cases. Elimination of Reductions in Children's Benefits. Orphans' and disabled contributors' children's benefits are no longer reduced for the fifth and subsequent children. All children in a family, regardless of its size, are eligible to receive equal benefits. These important amendments to the Canada Pension Plan came into force on January lst,1978. Mr. and Mrs. Steve George (the former Pam Mitchell) of London spent a few days last week visiting at the home of her grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Redvers Johnson. They also visited with her aunt, Joy, and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. George McLean, while here. Last week Jack and Jim Farrell held a barn meeting at their farm on the 12th concession east in Huron township. A special speaker was ` on hand to discuss current agriculture topics. Jack and Evelyn Johnson of Ripley spent Easter Sunday at the home of her daughter, husband, and family, Jack and Marion Lawrie in the Tiverton area. Visiting with Walter Needham at Gateway Haven in Wiarton last week were his brother, Stewart Needham, of Ripley, Jim Needham and Janice of the tenth. Then the following day Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brooks called on Watt. Ripley folks are glad to hear that Watt, who was hospitalized earlier in the winter, is back at the. Haven. Donnie and Carol Fludder, Tammy and Jason of Ripley spent Easter with her sister Glenda, Mr. and . Mrs. A.J. Gardner and family at Vanastra. Back from the Caribbean last week are Jerry and Anne Huber and Dave of Ripley. Another patient. in St. Joe's hospital in London is Mel Pollock of the Clarks • area concession 12 west in Huron township. Ripley folks extend best wishes to Mel. Mr. and Mrs. Doug MacDonald of Toronto spent Easter in Ripley and visited with their relatives here. Mrs. Anne Mason of Ripley and Mrs. 'Marion McCharles of Lochalsh are the program convenors for the meeting of the Happy Hearts on April 14. The special speaker talking on `Consumer Fraud" will be Mr. George Brophy of the firm Goodall, Campbell and Brophy of Lucknow. Anyone is welcome to attend and lunch will be served in the Ripley Huron Legion hall, at 2 p.m. The Huron Bruce Arts and Crafts Incorporated held a committee meeting on Tuesday evening last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Phillips. Further plans were made for the Ripley Craft show in the r Community Complex, Friday and Saturday July 28 and 29. Space for display booths is already at a premium. Of special , note are' three exhibits covering more than 100 feetfrontage combined. Once again there will be lucky draw .prize,s.
