Ripley Hockey News
The Tykes and Atom "A"s
both brought horde trophies this
past week. The Tyke tournament
was held in Blyth, and Ripley won
the first game 13-0 over Zurich.
Todd Farrell, Stephen Keelan and
Blair Scott each scored hat tricks
plus assists, Clint Twolan 2 goals
and tr assists, and Gerry Meurs
scored twice and 1 assist. Doug
Sorbara and Mark, Dahmer made
assists.
In the second game,. it was
Ripley 5 and Kurt,°ilie 0. Clint
Twolan again made the hat trick,
and 2 assists. Todd Farrell scored
once and made 3 assists, and
Stephen Keelan scored the other
goal and made 1 assist. Jeff
Verbeek made the other assist.
In the last game with Blyth, the
boys were a little more generous,
allowing Blyth 2 goals to their 5.
Gerry Meurs scored the first from
Blair Scott and Doug Sorbara,
Todd Farrell scored from Stephen
Keelan. Blyth got their first goal,
and then Todd Farrell scored
again from Clint Twolan, followed
by a goal by Clint from Stephen
Keelan. Stephen and Clint com-
bined for the last goal, and let
Blyth finish the scoring. Clint
Twolan won the most colourful
player award. Congratulations.
In an Atom "D" tournament in
Brussels, Ripley lost the first
game to Brussels 4-1. Geoff
Denstedt got the only goal,
assisted by Mitch Twolan. They
then went in the consolation
round, and eliminated Zurich 4-0.
Todd Walden scored Unassisted
in the first period, and Eddie

second. In the third, Mitch
Twolan teamed up with Robert
Campbell for one goal, and Todd
Walden combined with Randy
Collins for the last,
In the final game, they met
Elma Logan, defeating them 7-1.
Todd Walden opened scoring
with 5 seconds remaining in the
first period, assisted by Eddie
Moore and Danny Wood. Mitch
Twolan scored in the second
period from Geoff Denstedt and
Matthew Dahmer, and Elma
Logan -scored. The third period
was all Ripley, with Robert
Campbell combining with Geoff
Denstedt for the first goal, Todd
Walden scored twice, and Mitch
Twolan scored twice. The Conso-
lation Trophy belonged to Ripley.
In' the Consolation round for
WOAA D, Ripley Atom "A"s
defeated Paisley 8-0. Geoff Den-
stedt, Mitch Twolan and Robert
Campbell each scored twice, and
Danny ,Wood scored the other
goal unassisted. Kent Lowry,
Doug Hawrylys-1`iyn` and Randy
Collins -made assists.
There was an Atom • `'B"
tournament in Kincardine, and
Ripley won their first game over
Listowel 3-2. Todd Walden from
Mitch Twolan scored the first
Ripley goal, after letting Listowel
get a 2-0 lead. Geoff Denstedt
from Danny Wood and Mitch
Twolan from Geoff scored in the
third period.
In the second game, against
Walkerton, Walkerton got the
first goal in the first period, and
then Mitch Twolan scored unas-
sisted in the second, followed by a
goal by Doug Hawrylyshyn from
Todd Walden, Walkerton scored
twice in the third period to make
it 3-2.
The Atom "B"s played the
Embassy Restaurant, and won
4-1. After a scoreless first period,
Robbie Brooks scored from Jeff
Godfrey and David Pattrson, and
Jeff Gamble and Ross Farrell got
together for the second goal. In
the third period, Jeff Gamble and
Ross Farrell combined with David
Cook for the next goal, then Ross
Farrell scored from Jeff Gamble.
Doug Harris finished the game
with a goal for the Embassy.
The Pee Wee "A" team played
Tiverton, winning 5-2, Eric van -
der Glas, from Mike Moore,
opened the scoring. Terry Irwin,
from Kevin Boyle scored in the
first period too, and opened the
game in the second witha goal
from Eric vander Glas. Andrew
Duthie scored for Tiverton, and
Terry Irwin, from Eric vander
Glas and Kevin Boyle, made the
next marker. Gary Rutledge from
Joe Nugent finished the scoring
for Ripley, allowin-g Dave Irvine
from Tiverton to score the lone
third period marker.
Against Tara, it was Ripley 8,
Tara 3. Mike Moore and Terry
Irwin each scored twice, and
Larry Coiling, Danny Smeltzer,
Kevin Boyle and'.Gary Rutledge.
beat the goalie once each. Paul
Keelan, Paul Harris and Bobby
Cameron made the, assists.
Huron .Bruce Pony Club
The only meeting for the month
of March of -the Huron Bruce
Pony Club was held on the 5th of
March, at the home Of Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Taylor of Lucknow.
'The meeting opened with the
Quiz on 'Hunting' after which
`Ginny and Andrea Wolstenholme
gave their talk on 'Tack'.
The award for Pony Club
member of the month was won
this time by James Watson. Mrs.
Messenger, our district commis-
sioner, presented the award.
The tickets for our draw on the
Easter Basket were given out to
the members to sell., to help raise
funds for the Pony Club. We
would also like to take this
opportunity to welcome another
new member to our Club, Sherrie
McCarthy of Kincardine.
The next meeting of the Pony
Club will be held on Sunday,
April 9th at '1.30 p.m. at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. John Veen of
Kincardine. The topic will be
`Transportation and Preparing
Horses for a Journey', and the
quiz will be on "Tack".
We would also like to wish our
teams going to the Annual Pony
Club Quiz in Guelph on the 1st of
April, the very best of luck.
