The Lucknow Juvenile hockey season ended abruptly on Sunday, February 26 when the local boys,
favoured to win their best of five series with Milverton went down to a 6 - 4 defeat. A capacity crowd at
the game saw the boys play to the best of their ability, out playing and out shooting their opponents. The
team manager and coach, Dave Black and BM Hunter feel the boys had an excellent season considering
the majority of the team are first year Juveniles.
Juveniles lose series to Milverton

Sometimes the end comes
suddenly in playoff hockey. Such
was the case for the ' Lucknow
Juveniles, Sunday, February 26.
With the local boys a favourite
to win their best of five series
with Milverton, they lost two
close games 4-3 and 7-6, to set up
the fifth game.
This was perhaps one of the
best games.they played this year,
as all boys played to the best of
their ability, out playing and, out
shooting their opp. ents.
However, the Milverton goal
tender did not bring just the
horseshoe, he brought the whole
horse!
He led his team to a defeat of
Lucknow 6-4.
It is very uncommon for a
Lucknow Juvenile team to be

The Atom "A" squad started
"their playoff series with Brussels
with a very exciting overtime
victory. Riley started the scoring
with 2 goals, one by Todd Walden
from Doug Hawry-lyshyn and
Danny Wood, and the other by
Mitch Twolan. Brussels went
ahead on 3 goals, • and Mitch
Twolan, from Geoff Denstedt and
Robert Campbell, tied it Up in the
last minute and a half ofplay. At
the ,end of the first minute of
overtime, Mitch again ,scored
from Kent Lowry, and just at the
end of the period, Doug Hawryl-
yshyn scored the insurance mark-
er from Danny Wood and -Kennth
Thompson. It was down ' -to
Brussels for the next 2 games,
and the boys weren't so lucky,
losing the first 8 - -0 and the
second 6 - 1.
The Atom "B" team took on a
team from Kincardine, and over-
powered them 8 - 1. Jeff Gamble
led the team effort with 2 goals
and 2 assists, with David Patter-
son, Brian Barne§, Bruce Sum-
ner, Paul Gamble and Ross
Farrell each ,getting 1 goal and I
assist. Robbie Brooks had 1 goal
and 2 assists: and the - other

finished so early, as this is only
the second time in nine years they '
failed to be in the OMHA finals.
The team had an overall good
season, considering the majority
of the team are all first year
Juveniles. Management apprec-
iates the opportunity to be
associated with these boys who
showed discipline and fellowship
while playing the game for fun
and to win.

Lancers win opener

who fill the arena and drive them
In the first game of the best of 7 onto , win, they can't lose.
series, the Lucknow Lancers put
the Wingham Royals down to. Atom •
defeat 8 to 4, .
The first. peliod opened up to a ,
flurry of penalties and goals with
Lucknow corning out on top 3 to 2
on the -score board. Scoring for
Lucknow was John Emberlin from
Mark Chisholm and Graham
Hamilton. Mark Chisholm tallied
for two more assisted by Carl
Stanley on both of them.
The second period started out
the same as the first with a flurry °
of penalties and hard body
checking; but the Lancers came
out on top and ended the 2nd
period ahead of Wingham 5 to 3.
Scoring for Lucknow in the 2nd
period was Ian Montgomery from
Jim Murrayand Paul Frayne;
Ken Reid ,from, Cull Stanley and
Graham Hamilton.
With two periods of hard
hitting hockey behind them the
teams settled down and kept the
game on the ice, instead of in the
penalty box. The Lucknow_ team
kept the pressure on and mine up
with 3 more goals to end the game
8 to 4 over Wingham,. Scoring for
Lucknow in the third period was
Mike Courtney from Jim Murray;
Ding Stevenson from Lynn Arm-
strong; Carl Stanley from Gra-
hain Hamilton and John MacKen-
zie.
With one game in the Lancers

feel very confident about the
series. The Lancers would like to

On Friday, March 3rd, Luck -
now Atoms played host to
Wingham in an exhibition game.
After trailing 2 - 0in the game
Lucknow came back to take a 3-2
lead. With only 37 seconds left in
the ,same, Wingham, scored the
tying goal to end the game at 3-3.
Scoring for Lucknow were
Grant Murray 2 goals, Alex West
1 goal and " 1 assist with Todd
Ritchie, Brian De Groote and
Tommy Gilmore'each getting one
assist.
On Saturday, March 4th, the
local lads travelled to Kincardine
where they were hosted by the,
Kincardine House League team.
Lucknew scored 6 goals before
Kincardine scored late in , the
game to spoil Todd Scharlach and
Danny Gilchrist's bid for a
shutout.
Grant Murray led the scoring
with ,4 goals and 1 assists. Todd
Ritchie has 1 goal and 1 assist
while Ricky Bechard scored the
other goal. Alex West had 2
assists and Jeff Gibson 1.
• On Monday, March 6th, Luck -
now played host to the Belgrave
Atoms. Grant Murray scored the
lone Lucknow _goal .,,with assists
going to Alex West and Todd
Ritchie. The goal gave Lucknow a
close 1,0 victory.
Todd Shcarlach and Danny
Gilchrist played a strong game in
net to earn the shutout.
