Hume, Special Correspon- dent of The Signal) Ottawa, April 22.—Two certainties stood out amidst many uncertainties as Parliament adjourned Wednesday u ntil May 20. First, all signs pointed to a much livelier time lu Parliament when 1t resumes than was the case during the past three months, and, second, the general election seemed set fur September or October. 'The two chief uncertainties were; Will ,'rime Minister R. B. Bennett's bealth stand the combined strain of participation In the King's ether jubi- lee celebration In London and of pilot- ing through the House such controver- sial legislation as awaits its return and permit him to carry on as leader through a spirited election campaign? Wooed, What,-waactly, le to lie the role of flon. If. 11. Asked, point blank, if "Ze,4R be be were coming back to lead his party .1 In the fight, Mr. Bennett gave a guarded answer: "No man who bas been sick for seven weeks makes pre- dk•tlon■ about the future: he is in- clined to think more about the past." And then, In his public message on the eve of hie -departure Thursday a noon for London, Mr. Bennett's re- ference to the future wan agate couched in careful terms. . "i expect to return to Canada In good health be stated, "to join with my colleagues to eompteting the tegtelatfon *blab was undertaken at the commeneemeld of this session. i am grateful to the Almighty that i hare been able through theses difficult years to render some service to my country, and, so as ll to continue to do eo." Wbne la lot dou, Mr. Bennett 1s expected to con- sult framer -street epeeist -Ws ea hie - condition and secure expert opinion on the posalhilltfes of hta heart carrying him throngh hla hoped-for program. Fearful of the consequences In the coming election, efforts are being made In different quarters to effect a rap- proehewent between the Prime Min - hoer and Hon. Mr. Stevens. Time alone will tell„ of course, Just what will happen. but the majority opin- ion here is that If Mr. Bennett le stile to lead bus party in the election Mr. Stevens will not he in his reorganised Cabinet. incidentally, no Cabinet changes are looked for here until the e ve of the e 1 action. On Monday. Mr. Mackenzie King, Liberal leader, proteateal 1n vain against a long Eaglet adjournment, against ''a moribund Government de- laying an already overdue appeal to the people."
