A. Campbell. This farm" newspaper has as its slogan "The weekly newspaper for Ontario's Golden Acres" and it has Canada wide coverage. In 'fact. it's advertising business is handled by a national business firm on Front 4treet in downtown Toron- to, not -far from the Royal York . Hotel. Donald Campbell lives two blocks south and one block east of Ripley, the former Edgar Watson farm, on the fourth concession east in Huron Township. His story is called "Acres of Mem- ory" and it is well worth reading if you can find a paper - a nostalgic story in a modern setting. This is his second story in the paper.- Donald Campbell has written professionally for more than 25 years. he has a column called "The Naked. Point!" ready for release. It is entirely different in content and format of writing. It is concerned with the modern trend of the open hands in Canada waiting on the great "Rip -Off" * * * * * .* In a split " second a most unfortunate accident happened on Tuesday morning of last week at the . place of Donald and Marlene Coiling on Ripley Street. This is the site of the long gone eek in Ri• pley Ripley Flax Mill . and then the Walden Bros. (Bill and Eric) had their repair garage for their transport trucks. Now the Coiling brothers, Gerald and Donald, operate their gravel trucks from there. 7n an attempt to get one of the trucks started on that real frosty morning last Tuesday, Gerry was using a set of booster cables, a common practise. At the instant of contact With the truck its batter exploded splashing battery acid in his face and some pieces of the case and the force of the concussion from the explo- sion. Gerald got to Donald's house nearby. Mrs. Marilyn (Bob) Johnston, a neighbour across the street and a nurse was called. She immediately irrigated Gerry's eyes with water. He was taken to Kincardine and District Hospital where Dr. J. B. Tindall had hint rushed to Owen Sound Hospital for treatment of his serious condition. Ripley folks wish Gerry recovery from this sudden misfortune. * * * * * * Taking the place of Circle Eight Ranch on Tuesday evening on Wingham television were the popular Blue Ridge quartet and the Mark Four band with their blue grass music. During the week they gave ' three different evening performances in this part of Western Ontario - Owen Sound, Hanover, and Listowel. From their program the writer understood that they appear each Saturday evening on the Jam- boree in Wheeling, West Virigin- ia and that - Martha and Earl Heywood, well known Wingharn musicians organize bus trips down. Our thanks to Mrs. Marion McCharles of Lochalsh for the call last Tuesday evening that they were on CKNX. * * * * * * Bob Campbell in his ,-'secoi year at the College of Agriculture Last week Mrs. Irene (Doug) Liddle of Ripley and Clarks, and Mrs. Betty (Jack) Scott of Ripley were patients in Kincardine Hospital. How nice it is to see,February ended this week. Last week's frosty weather brought back memories of those winters just at the end of the First World War when the month of February was always noted for its frost. Then there was that frosty February night in 1934 when it was minus 55 degrees Fahrenheit at Walker- ton and many of the apple trees in this area were killed. On College Street headed for the Maple Leaf Gardens it was minus forty - the same on both the Centigrade .and F hren'heit scales. At this' point mercury, normally a liquid, at Centralia was home last, freezes. weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Campbell, on the fourth. Thanks to two fourth year chemistry students the eyes -are still here and also to the late Dr. Vince Callaghan at Victoria Hospital; even though the second section of the London Free Press on April 2nd had as its headline "University student loses sight of the eye".
