In an exhibition game, the
Atom "A''team played Wingham
Atoms to a 4-4 tie. Wingham
scored the only goal in the first
period., then Todd Walden and
Danny Wood combined • for the
first goal in the second period.
Wingham retaliated, but with 52
seconds left, Kent Lowry took a
pass from Geoff Dehstedt to tie
the game again, Wingham, scored
first again in the third period, and
Geoff Denstedt, from Mitch
Twolen and Jeff Gamble, made it
3-3. Mitch Twolen, with assists
from Geoff Denstedt and Matt
Dahmer, scored the go ahead
goal, but with 40 seconds,
Wingham tied it up. These guys
playa good game, and start their
playoffs soon. Check to see when
they play, it's good hockey.
In Atom "B" play, it was
Ripley 4, McGinnis Spitfires 1.
Brian Barnes scored the opening
goal unassisted, and the Spitfires
, opened the scoring in the second
period with their only goal by
Mace Pickett. John Forster scor-
ed the next two goals, with assists
from Paul Gamble and Darryl
Verbeek. Ross • Farrell, from,
Robbie Brooks, completed the
scoring.
In the_third- game ' 'of their
playoffs with Blyth; the Pee Wee
"A" squad made quite a come-
back, but couldn't' quite make it,
losing 5-4. Shawn Morrison made
the only Ripley marker -in the first
period from Mike Moore and Paul
Harris. Shawn also scored the last
goal in the second period from
Mike Moors, to make the total 5-2
at the end of the second period.
Larry Coiling ,-and Kevin Boyle
combined for a third goal, and
Terry Irwin from Gary Rutledge
made it 4, but they couldn't get
the tieing marker.
Kiltie's Komets streaked into
Ripley to play the Pee Wee "B
"s
and left with a 3-1 victory.. Mike
Nicholson made the only Ripley
tally -from Shawn Fiddler and Jeff
Elliott.
The Juvenile Girls lost their
series with Tiverton, and. are out.
They have had a lot of fun, and
look forward to next year. Mary
Lynn McLean and Heather van
Horne tend the net, and the rest
of the team is: Susan Reeves,
Joanne Griffith, Darlene Coiling,
Betty Jean McLean, Nancy Mac-,
Donald, • Heather MacDonald;•.
Captain, Linda MacDonald, Bon-
nie van Horne, Janice Elliott,
Cathy Nugent, and Connie Irwin.
Patti' Buttee, Harvey Brooks and
"Joan Smith handle this team.
In the first game of the Juvenile
playoffs with Teeswater, the
Ripley boys had a little tough
luck, losing the game 6-1, and
Mark Stanley as well with a
broken arm, Brian Coiling scored
the first geal of the game from
Mark Stanley, but Teeswater
never looked back. In the second
game in Ripley Sunday night, it
was an overtime victory for
Teeswater, 7-4. Teeswater open-
ed the game and then Ripley
scored 4 goals in a row, all in the
first priod: Robert Regier unas-
sisted, . Chris McGarvey from
-. Greg Stevenson and Mike Pol-
lock, and then Bill Cameron
scored, twice from Brian Coiling
and Robert Regier. Teeswater
took over then, and Ripley just
-didn't Nave the bench strength to
hold them. The third game is in
Teeswater Wednesday night,
with the 4th game, if necessary,
in Ripley Saturday night.
The Atom "A" team played in
a tournament in. Durham Satur-
day,, winning their first game
against Wingham 2-1. • Danny
Wood scored unassisted, and
Mitch Twolen and Jeff Gamble
got it together for the winning
goal. In the second game, it was
Durham 5, Ripley .2, with' Mitch
Tavolen scoring both goals unas-
sisted.
