AUSTIN A corn marketing committee of NFU members whichhad been working for several months, presented .their Principles of a Corn Marketing Plan to 'Ion. Wm. Newman, Minister of Agri- culture and Food on November 2, 1977. Principles ,of the NFU Corn Marketing Plan are a three person commission, appointed by the government to administer the plan. The commission would have sufficient powers to regulate the marketing of all grain corn grown, in Ontario. It would determine prices at which corn would be bought and sold in the province, and for export out of the provinice or for export. trade. A special •act of legislature is needed for a Commission 'to have these powers, and the NFU asked Mr. Newman for such special legislation. The NFU also asked. Mr.. ,Newman to • urge the Federal • Government to put control of corn imports under the Canadian • Wheat Board. Corn imports are presently under the Dep.atitment of Trade and Commerce. The Canadian Wheat Board, a federal agency, has' control over imports of wheat, oats and barley. If the Board had corn under its jurisdiction, producers would be protected from, a flow of cheap U.S. grain: CONTINUED FROM PAGE 6 It is worth noting that 42 people on the Ontario March of Dimes' staff are physically disabled, as well as 9 members of the Board of Directors. 4) Mr. and Mrs. Croot Charge: 33% spent onfund raising (Globe &. Mail, January 24th, 1978). Fund raising expenditures in 1976 amounted to $113,901., 4% of total revenue or 1'2% of the organization's General Opera- tions revenue. The organization's auditors, Clarkson, Gordon & Co., state that this is an acceptable level of expenditure for fund raising, purposes. 5) Mr. and Mrs. Croot Charge: No community development pro- gram in London. (Free Press, January 19th, 1978, and Globe. & Mail, January -24th, 1978). The Croots' allegation that the Community Development Pro- gram is non-existent in London is false. For three years the Ontario March of Dimes has been supporting, through a full-time staff: person, the Action League, Physically Handicapped Adults (ALPHA). ALPHA has been successful in convincing . the City of London to ramp curbs, and to undertake at a cost of half -a -mil- lion dollars; a new transportation system for the handicapped. Similar groups- making similar inroads are being supported by the Ontario March . of Dimes" all across the 'Province. Surely the cost to the Ontario March of Dimes of providing these resour- ces is a program one, not an administration, fund raising or publicity cost. "For those of us in volunteer and staff positions, we are proud of our organization, our role in Ontario, our work and our fellow workers and volunteers" said B. Lee Ruliman, Executive Director. "We will defend proudly our role in the community against nlisrep' resehtation of our work."
