together the young couple left for
the Queen's Bush travelling as far
as-Goderich by rail, and. reaching
Lucknow by stage. From Lucknow
they walked north "to the sixth
concession to the farm on which
she spent almost sixty-six years.
With willing hands and stout
hearts and a firm faith ifGod
they began the task of hewing out
their home from the virgin forest.
Their home became known as a
home of outstanding hospitality
even in a community •where
hospitality was the rule and not
exception.
The standing committee of the
Ontario Grain Crop Improvement
Association, at a meeting at
Toronto last week, decided 'that
the "better seed train", will
again be operated in Ontario this
spring. On this occasion the train
will visit Bruce, Grey, Lambton,
Huron, Middlesex, Perth and
Dufferin counties. As in previous
years the tour will be educational.
Stops will be made at small points
along the route and farmers will
be given an opportunity to see
how the grain should be cleaned
and hear lectures on the advan-
tages of good seed.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph D. -
Andersizin of the St. Helens
district celebrated their 53rd
wedding anniversary on Friday,
January 30th. .
Trees from the woodlot of
Henry Gardner •at Zion will
provide material for British
shipbuidling. Some fine timber
was selected and cut recently on
the Gardner Farm.
By the ring growth on one tree
jit is known to be two centuries old
and the timber in its bottom log
measured almost 1,200 feet.
Whitechurch Women's Insti-
tute marked its 25th anniversary
at the Community Memorial Hall•
on Friday evening. A large
birthday cake centred the table at
the front of the hall.
Bill Hunter and "Bud" Hamil-
ton have taken over the lease on
Cam MacTavish's B.A. service
station, effective the first of the -
month. The 'lease had previously
been held by. Joe VVasney.
Capacity audiences .last Thurs-
day and Friday evenings fully
enjoyed a most entertaining
concert presented by the students
of the LucknoW District High
School.
A freak egg was brought into
the Sentinel Office last week by
Clarence Greer. It wasn't an
abnormally large egg, but when
cracked 'open at the Greer home
was found to. be an egg within an
egg. In addition to a normal egg
was another hard -shelled one,
about the size of a small pullet
egg. The formation within the
smaller egg was less perfect with
the yolk lacking the usual
colouring
A pole removal, plan to modern-
ize the lighting ,of Main street got
underway last week when a hydro
crew commenced preliminary
pole work and tree trimming.
A Scottish evening was held 'in
South Kinloss Presbyterian
Church on .Monday. evening,
January 26th. Two films, "The
Covenanters •of Scotland" and
'Scotland and Bonnie" were
shown and a Scottish singsong
enjoyed.
An official weather resume of
the month of January shows that
the month.was exceptionally calm
with very little sunshine:
Gordon Stanley, reeve of the
Village of Ripley, became the 81st
Warden of Bruce County when he
defeated his opponent, Reeve
Thomas Stevenson, of Chesley at
the inaugural session of County
Council.
