To borrow a phrase from a
current song, - the writer ° is slip
` sliding. away. January which was
just ended this ° Tuesday was
noted for a snow blizzard each
week to start off 1978. This past
,week it built up 'to .a. peak on
Thursday, January 26with snow
squalls, high . gusting winds and
all the rest. And then this area
was not as bad as that to the
south. it is little wonder that
many people have gone or are
going to . Florida, California,
Arizona, Barbados, and all such
similar sun fun spots.

Despite the winter conditions
Ron Farrell of Ripley was helping
his brother-in-law Tom Helm cut
down some trees in Tom's bush- a
week ago when they saw a very
rare sight. It was a flying squirrel
running up a tree.then take a fly-
ing glide down to the lower part of
another tree some,distance away
and keep on repeating this act as
it travelled away froth the men. In
all the years this writer' has only
seen a dead one - killed in a tree
cutting, and brought to the R.C.S.
for identification. Tom Helm's
farm and bushlot are on the 12tb.
concession of Ashfield.'. Unlike
ordinary red, black and ' grey
squirrels the flying squirrels
living in hollow trees are ' only
nocturnal so that is the reason for
their being sighted rarely. They
say that to see one "Flying" is
something a person will not
forget:
