- her youngest sister Mrs. Ted
Snider of Brampton. Mr. Snider
on Friday attended his mother's
funeral and .today Monday _ at-
tends his wife's funeral. Mr. and
Mrs. Milligan and Clara spent the
weekend at the Snider home, .
Brampton.
The Y.P.S. held t1 of it meeting
Sunday evening at . the manse
with an attendance of 20. Miss
r Kathy Purdon was : fn charge of
the meeting. Her scripture read-
ing was the Ten Commandments.
The topic was a continued
discussion of the last meeting's
topic Witchcraft in which the
meeting was interested.
George Evans of Wingham was
a Sunday caller on Mr. 'and Mrs.
Ken Pewtress.

Lucknow on Sunday with a score
4-3 in favour of Wingham.
Richard Moore, member of the
team from. Whitechurch, scored- -

Mrs.- Rod Inglis of Earlton, and
attending a course at Guelph
University, visited last week with
his uncle Tom Inglis before
returning • home to Earlton.
Mr. and Mrs.' Angus Falconer
were Sunday visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. Bob Mowbray.
Miss Kathy Purdon of Blyth
spent the weekend with her
parents Mr. and Mrs. Archie.

The play the Wacky Widow
which was to have been held on
the weekend at Gowanstown was
postponed till this Saturday
evening, January 28.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rintoul on
Sunday visited with their daught-
er Mrs. Leonard Robinson, Mr.
Robinson and family of Belgrave
area. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Cardiff
of B ussels were also visitors at
the same home.
On . Sunday ' at Chalmer's
Church the Y.P.S. who have been
looking after the caretaking erred
in putting on the. heat in the
church. A large crowd gathered
for the service on Sunday
morning but had to return home
due to no heat. The annual
meeting will be held Friday, in.
the church at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Helen Schultz accompan-
ied her son, Elmer and Mrs.
Schultz and family to Lucknow on
Sunday to a family gathering at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Brian
Johnston and family. Mr. and
Mrs: Dennis Schultz and little girl
were also there.
'The village card party was held
Mondayevening at the home of
Albert Coultes with five tables in
play. The next party will be held
Monday, January 30th at • the
home of Mr. and Mrs. John
Gaunt.

The January meeting of Chal-
mer's Women's Missionary Soci-
ety was held Wednesday, Janu-
ary 18 at the home • of Mrs.
Wesley Tiffin. The leader Mrs.
Harvey Osborne welcomed all to
the meeting and gave the call to
worship, a poern, A New Leaf. All
sang, Standing at the Portal, with
Mrs. Don Ross pianist.
Mrs. Bill Rintoul read, The
New Year is Your Opportunity to
Live, by Padre Young. Mrs. Don
Ross lectin prayer. Mrs. Wallace
Milligan read scipture, Eccles.
3:1-14.
The topic was given by Mrs.
Harvey Osborne. She told of her
ambition to be a missionary -nurse
and how she managed to become
this at Queen Charlotte Islands
where many of the folks were
Haida Indians and the hospital
had 27 beds. She practised here
for 11/4 years. Being a missionary
nurse was not out of the ordinary.
She read the scripture, Acts
1:1-9. The Indians have nothing
against the women having a baby
and not being married. Most kept
their babies in their own families.
Few gave their babies up. Mrs.
Osborne then showed slides:
Showing the logging industry,
tides, hospital, nurses residence
and some of the inmates.. She
closed With prayer:
Mrs. V. Emerson gave New
Years readings, Mrs.' Bill .Rintoul
.and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin tgld of the
Presbyterial meeting held at St.
Andrew's Church, Wingham on
Monday. They gave out a few
copies and told of the allocation" to
be higher in 1978. Mrs. Bill'
Evans gave a reading, Another
Year.
The president, Mrs. Bill Rint-
oul, presided for „ the business.
The minutes were read. by Mrs.
V. Emerson. A letter of thanks'for
box sent at Christmas was `read
from Misses Annie and Mary
Laidlaw. The offering was
received by Anna Osborne and
dedicated by Mrs.John de Boer.
Two minutes silence was held. in
memory of the passing of two
members, Mrs. Robert Ross and
Mrs. Dawson Craig. -Mrs.. Alan
Falconer gave the closing prayer.
Grace was° sung and the hostess
served refreshments.
Mrs. John de Boer held the
Ladies'. Aid meeting. They dis-
cussed having a bazaar in the fall.
Anna Osborne received the.
offering. The meeting closed with
the Mizpah Benediction.

On December 1st a bus load of
our residents were taken to the
Hanover Mall for a shopping trip.
When everyonehad finished their
shopping we went to the cafeteria,
for aalunch. , '
Some of our ladies played
bridge on Friday, December 2nd
with Miss Laura Shrum and Mrs.
Gladys Robertson getting the
high ,prizes and Mrs. May Henry
and Mrs. Mary McKay second
high.
The C.G.I.T. girls from Paisley;
along with their leader Mrs. Tom
Bryce came on December 6th at
7.30 p.m. and put on a lovely
program. Later they distributed
homemade cookies and sang
carols on the second floor for the
residents that were unable to be'
down td the ' auditorium.
The C.W.L. of Walkerton came
and had their monthly euchre on -°-
December 8th at 1.45 'p.m. Mrs.
Eliza Cavil! and Teddy Ellis' on
the high prices and Mrs'. Martha
McGill and Peter Ruetz thelow
prizes.
The resident council met on
Tuesday, December 13th in the
Tuck Shop Area at 10.30 a.m.
There were 13 present and Mrs.
Elizabeth Long, the secretary
read the minutes of the last
meeting. Mrs. Schilroth moved
that the minutes were correct and
Mrs. -McFadden seconded it. Mr.
Oscar Sparrow and Mr. Wm.
Hields, the president visited the
residents that were in hospital.
We are also glad to report that
Mrs. Agnes Bell is back with us
again after her lengthy stay in
hospital.
The Ladies Auxiliary, Branch
102, of Walkerton put on their
monthly bingo. ' Mrs. Verna
Clancy, the convener gave each
resident who attended the bingo a
large candy cane. Lovely trays of
Christmas fruit were given out as
prizes..
Our monthly birthday party
was convened ,by , Mrs. 4. P.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Haldenby
were to Toronto during the week
owing to the illness of • their
daughter '(Marjorie), Mrs. How-
ard Bennett,
Miss Lois Nicholson was to
London .Tuesday where she
underwent dental surgery. Glad
the nasty. ordeal is over Lois.
Mrs. Gordon Kurt, and Mrs.
Stewart Lane accompanied Mr.
and Mrs. Bert • Nicholson to
London on Tuesday and Mrs.
Kurt visited with her husband in
St. Joseph's Hospital. We wish
him improved health.
Sympathy is extended to Mrs.
Midford Wall in the death of her.
father, Mr. Thomas Hackett in his
90th year.
The Women's Institute held
their fund raising euchre party on
Tuesday evening. A nice crowd
turned out ,and a most sociable
time was enjoyed. Mrs. Cliff
Johnston won the lady's high and
Earl Harris the high gent in play.
and Ellwood Elliott was the lucky
man of the evening. They plan
another party on January 31st, so
circle your calendar and come out
and lend your support to the
Holyrood Institute as work on the
hall improvement has begun.
Afghan tickets are being sold
right and left. If you see a
member closing in on you, ,you
know she has tickets to sell.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott were
guests at a family dinner atthe
home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scott
of Ripley on Friday evening.

2.15 p.m., at the home of Mrs.

The Lang family from Mildm
entertained the residents . with
their musical selections. Four
boys and four . girls square
danced. The girls were dressed in
pleated Bruce County tartan
skirts and the boys with long
tartan ties to match. Mrs.
Palmateer, the Brucelea Haven
Auxiliary president acted as
emcee. The Salvation Army came
the same evening and put on a
Christmas program and gave out
bags of treats. .
The Anglican Church Women
came on Saturday, ' December
17th and put on a lovely program.
They distributed decorated bask-
ets of goodies to° all the Anglican
residents.
The' Craft Room Christmas
party was held on Monday,
December 19th. A Santa Claus
corsage was pinned on each
resident as they arrived. There
were Christmas carols playing
during the lunch hour and
everything was gay with the
Christmas theme. Fruit punch,
cherry bread, grapes, cheese and
Christmas cake ,were served to
all.
