This area was shocked to hear
of the sudden passing of a good
neighbour, Mr. Bert McWhinney.
at the Carlow Hall on Wednesday
evening, January 11 in his 69th
year. Mr. McWhinney had lived
alone on the 6th concession of
Ashfield since his wife, the
'former Edna Mae Lapish passed
away. He is ' survived by a
brother-in-law, Mr. Earl Blake of
R. R. 1, Clinton, 2 nieces and 1
nephew. His body rested at the
Stiles Funekal Home -in Goderich.
Morningstar Lodge No. 309 A.M.
& F.M. held a memorial service
at the funeral home on Friday
evening at 9 p.m. The funeral
service and committal was con-
ducted on Saturday at 2 p.ni. by
the Reverend Clyde" Westhaver,
minister of the Dungannon Unit-
ed Church where Mr. McWhin-
ney wasj a faithfie ' attendent.
Temporary entombment was in
the Dungannon mausoleum.

family and relative's of • the° Yate'
Mr. Thomas Hackett who passed
away in the Pinecrest Nursing
Home, Lucknow on Thursday,
January 12 in his 90th year. His
body rested at the MacKenzie -
McCreath Funeral Home., Luck -
now where funeral services were
conducted on Saturday afternoon,
January 14 at 2 p.m. Temporary
entombment was in the South
Kinloss Mausoleum.
Mr.. and Mrs. Jim O'Neill left
by canon Friday, January 13 for .a
6 week holiday in Florida.
The snow closed St. Joseph's
School at Kingsbridge on Monday..
and `Tuesday, January 9 and 10
but on Wednesday`` school resum-
ed with classes let go at 2.30 pm.
Com inunity volunteers ate
starting to aid the . staff in our
special education program which
is under the guidance of Margaret
Ferguson. The volunteers to date
are Brother Carl Voll, Mary
Clare, Clarice Dalton and Betty
Frayne. It is hoped , that this.
program within the community
shall grow:
Volleyball teams are.travelling
to Stratford and Goderich this
Saturday to participate in the two
Senior . tournaments, _underway.
This allows maximum participa-
tion •for our students at an
inter -school level.
House League "basketball. and
chess are starting on Monday,
January 16 for the Senior and
Junior grades. The primary
grades will bp starting a week
later ,with a 'form of basketball
known as bucketball.
Public speaking is rapidly
approaching and our students are
beginning ' the preparation for
school competitions. After these
come the Royal Canadian Legion
contest and the Ontario English
Catholic Teachers' Competition.
Mr. Ron Cladding, Family. Life
Co-ordinator is to be in the school
next week to discuss the imple-
mentation of our new elementary
Family Life . program , with the
primary teachers.
Course selection for high school
is with the grade eight's again
and Mr. J. Kopas from the F. E.
Madill ,Secondary School, Wing -
ham visited with the students and
explained the possible areas that
the students can enter. 'Mr."

Collegiate Institute will be telling.

visited during the past week with
his sister Mrs. Walter Clare, Mr,

Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Pritchard
of Mississauga spent the week-
end at' the home of heri mother
Mrs. Mark Dalton and family.
Eddie Sinnett returned to
Gaspe, Quebec, on Tuesday,
January 17 where he is employed
on the S. S. Gulf Canada.
Mrs. Linda Bowler and family
and . Miss Sheila Sinnett of
Stratford spent the weekend at
the home of the latter's mother

Reverend 'Father Chris Grab-
iac, a teacher at St. John's
College in Brantford is celebrat-
ing -Masses at the parishes of St,
Joseph's, Kingsbridge and„ St.
Mary's, Lucknow on weekends
when . Father Ed Dentinger is
holidaying in Florida.

with his fiancee Miss Sheila

the Toronto Internation Airport.

Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday,'
January 4 by plane from the
London airport following a two
week Christmas and New Years
holiday with his parents Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Courtney, and family.

Youth Club and Father Ed
Dentinger, C.R. enjoyed ' an
evening ' of bowling at the
_Goderich LittleBowl on Saturday,
January 7. Members were divid-
ed into four teams for the games.;
The Kingsbridge Youth 'Club' hold
their meetings on Sunday after-
noons in the school gym, but
there will be no scheduled
meetings until Father Dentinger
returns from a month's holiday in
Florida.
As
Reverend Father Ed Dentinger,
C.R. leaves for a three„week well
deserved vacation on Monday,
January 9th' by car to Florida. He
travelled with his companion
Reverend Father Clarence Haus-
er, C.R. of Kitchener.
Miss' Antoinette Dalton of
Royal Oak, Michigan arrived here
on Saturday,.. January 7th for a
few days :holidays with her
nephew . Mike and Betty Lou
Dalton and family and other

Approximately 150 skaters
from the three parishes of St.
Augustine, St. Mary's, Lucknow,
and St. Joseph's, Kingsbridge
attended a skating party at the
Lucknow Arena on Sunday after-
noon,'January 8th from 1:30 until
3:15 p.m. A good time was had by
both the young and the not so
young!

from the Toronto International
Airport on Tuesday, January 3
following a three week holiday

the Anglican Church in Lucknow
to make plans for this year's
World Day of Prayer. This

was held on Thursday afternoon,

"Community Spirit in Modern
