Avoid the Yueltide Highway
by Bill Bresnahan
Lucknow United Church
As Christmas fast approaches, many
concerned people open their date hooks
and sigh, "I don't know how 1 can possi-
-E li y get everything done between now and
the 25th.
It seems many of us get to that point
as Christmas and New Years approach
and it causes stress and anxiety which
can dull the true spirit of the season.
John Wesley (1 703 - 179 1) was a cler-
gyman in the Church of England and
founder ,,Methodist Movement. He
is reporte4`thave said: "Though 1 am
always in haste, 1 am never in a hurry
because I never undertake more work
that I can go through with calmness of
spirit."
At this time of year we find ourselves
speeding down the "Yuletide Highway"
well over the limit and hearing down
hard on a section of road under construc-
tion. As we peer out tlyrough our festive
windshield we see a flagman, frantically
waving his flag and motioning us to slow
down for our own good and the well-
being of those around us. 11• we obey the
flagman we'll have a smoother, more
enjoyable ride.
