Decorations are great
Dear editor:
To the Lucknow &
District Chamber of
Commerce, Town Council
and crew that is fully
responsible for financing
and erecting the beautiful
Christmas decorations and
lights on the new lamp
posts on main street,
Lucknow. We appreciate
it, and thank everyone
involved that brought this
Chrktmas touch to our
"Sepoy" Town. Merry
Christmas to all from
Ashfield Service Centre.
Tony, Marilyn,
Paige and Christine
Miltenburg.
Dear editor:
As we returned from a
bus trip with the Seniors
last week, the light display
as we came over the hill,
on the east end of town,
was beautiful. Everyone
on the bus was greatly
impressed. It looked like a
row of candles and lit. up
the Nvholc town.
I want to commend the
Chamber of Commerce
and town council for this
display. It increases the
pride that we all have in
the town of Lucknow. I
think that it is the nicest
display that we have seen
in Huron County.

Flowers `invade' McNay farm to do good deed in 1946

Danger to children on the streets- Special
care should be exercised when crossing at
points other than at street intersections. When
streets are slippery cars and other vehicles are more
difficult to control. At the street intersections it is up
to the drivers to watch those on foot.
We had a good illustration of the danger to chil-
dren on the street a couple of weeks ago when, in
order to avoid running over a child, Mr. A. P.
Stewart, had to turn his car sharply across the street,
going over a bank ten or twelve feet high. Due to
good luck and good management the car did not
overturn and all escaped injury, but the deed was
none the less heroic as a twelve foot plunge with a
loaded car cannot be lightly undertaken. ° ' .

Neighbors hold a plowing bee -
Neighborliness and consideration for the mis-
fortune of others was in evidence on Saturday
afternoon at the farm of Kelso McNay, when a group
of neighboring plowmen invaded the farm and before
dusk had plowed 17 acres.
' Four tractors and eight teams spent the afternoon
at the McNay farm performing this act of kindness
for which Mr. and Mrs. McNay find words failing
them to express their appreciation.
Lloyd Cline is credited with organizing the band of
friends who ;helped him out so greatly on Saturday.

Hospital takes "wait and see" approach
Hospitals in Ontario are taking a "wait and
see" approach to the announcement by
Health Minister Dennis Timbre!' that they must be
more innovative in their financial management.
The minister's comments, made in a speech to the
Ontario Hospital Association earlier this month, hint-
ed at some radical changes to hospital funding.
However the association is waiting until the propos-
als are spelled out in more detail before reacting.
Norman Hayes, Administrator of the Wingham and
District Hospital, said he had known from his discus-
sion with ministry staff there was something in the
wind, he expected the minister to announce a user feet
for hospitals, "but I guess it was a political decision
that it wouldn't fly, and they didn't want to do it at
this time."
In his speech, Timbrell announced that local hospi-
tal boards will be given greater responsibility for
managing their financial affairs and more incentive to
save and raise money on their own.
In return, they can expect to be held accountable
forany overspending.
