fundraiser
Although the 1998
reunion is still 20 months
'away, the'reunion commit-
tee has been kept busy
with almost monthly
meetings planning for
"Make It Great In '98
Pulling off a successful
reunion takes a great deal
of planning, ghost of it
behind 'the scenes, so 'to
speak. Entertainment is ,
the. biggest area to be Con-
sidered at an early .date:
get thein hooked and
booked t: arl y !
As tunny as it may
seem, fundraising to gar-
ner ninnies to host a
reunion is a necessity.
There's lots to he paid for
before the actual reunion
arrives. Several local clubs
have donated or Loaned the
committee start up money,
but more is needed.
And so, a fundraising
committee becomes a part
of the reunion committee.
To that end, CKNX Barn
Dance has been booked
for Saturday, June 7, at the
sports complex, with the
show from 8 to 9:30, and a
dance to follow.

Amalgamation talks
in progress for. Lucknow
and Kinloss township
by Pat Livingston
Early investigations by the municipali-
ties ul Lucknow and Kinloss indicate tui
amalgamation of the two as a positive
step niwards cost reduction in response to
reduced provincial giants.
At a special meeting of the two coun-
cils Iasi week, an initial cost analysis oft
administration. using '95 figures from
bolls municipalities was presented. The
working' document was prepared by
Kinloss' cotincillor (eiald 1)oelnian and
clerk Measurer Maik Becker, and
Lucknow councillors Paul !.inn and Rick
McMurray.
Alter reviewing this initial presenta-
tion, both councils agreed 'to bring to
their individual council meetings a
"Terms of 'Reference" document to. he
approved. Once the terms of refe.rence
have been accepted by councils, an anial-
gainalion cutntnittee will proceed to
develop a proposal between the two

municipalities:
Earlier amalgamation talks had taken
place between Ashfield, Kinloss,
Lucknow and West Wawanosh. Kinloss
council saw the county line (Bruce and
Huron) as an insurmountable harrier and
withdrew from those first talks.
"It's a sot of extra work to cross
boundaries," said Lucknow Reeve Stuart
Reavie. "It's pretty complicated."
Lucknow Councillor "Finn Pegg agreed
it may he more difficult to do four. "But
to do twci now and then two late,!' he
queried. •
Uuelnian posed the question; "('an

"As we evolve oft this side
(Bruce county ), maybe we can start talks
with' our Huron neighbors; keep a dia-
logue open with Ash,tield and,West
Wawant>5h,'' said Reavie.
Huth conned., agree that it is in►pera-
tive that Ashlteld•and West Wawanosh
understand that it an amalgamation takes
place between Kinloss and Lucknow, it
will have no affect on the piese nt iperat-
Ing agteeinenl.s of the lout municipalities.
The patties also agreed that public
• meetings on the proposed amalgamation,
would he held as soon as all areas had
hecn investigated fully, and they had
complete information to share with their
ratepayers.'
Councillor (ierald Mowbray •urged
caution as the talks proceed. "Nobody
knows what (provincial) grants are going
to he:" Will the province give us a net of
less, rather than what we would.gain sep-
arately'►" he asked. it was announced in
November 1995 that the total funding for
the municipal support 'grant would he
reduced further in 1997.
The amalgamation talks are taking
place under the Savings and
Restructuring Act which gives munici-
palities theauthority to develop then own

support.
