Jim MacKenzie has found that his 12th Line Welding is a business that "works well with the farm, but you don't need a farm to have the busi- ness." MacKenzie, who had been employed by Helm Welding for 13 years, purchased the rights to manufacture the Lucknow bulk bin, from his employer earlier this year. "1 already knew 75 per cent of the dealers," says MacKenzie and it was an oppb.rtunity for him to be his own boss, a fact he views as a privi- lege. While most of the manufacturing is done at his farm, MacKenzie still uses some equipment at Helm Welding to finalize the bin construction. He said his former employer has been very helpful during the transition stages. The family -run opera- tion is producing six bins from four to 20 tons, with a part time person on an as needed basis. The bins are grey in color, but can be painted to a customer's require- ments. 12th Line Welding is on the 12th concession of Ashfield, phone 395- 3108. Jim MacKenzie owns and operates 12th Line Welding, manufacturing bulk bins that were originally patented by Helm Welding.
