Kairshea WI meet
Una Matthews and
Muriel MacKenzie,
assisted by the hostess
Ruth Langen served -
dessert and beverage
prior to the Nov. 21
meeting of the Kinloss
Kairshea Institute.
Guest speaker was
John Underwood, from
the Wingham area. John
and his wife, Susan, have
started a; business to
process locally grown
soybeans into premiere
type of oil and soya
meal.
The business named
Sunflower 01.1 Seeds is
operating 24 hours a day.
They have six full time
workers and four part
time. They use an extrud-
er -expeller combination
for processing. They
market the meal and
hulls through Parrish and
Heimbecker.
Marketing the oil i's
more challenging. There
are four refineries in
Ontario of which two are
owned by companies
which have their own
crushing plants.
People who 'wish to
tour the plant are wel-
come to visit their busi-
ness.
Fifteen members
answered the rollcall by
naming the best bargain
you ever made.
Following the busi-
ness, Ruth read an article
where the Ontario legis-
lature had passed Bill 75
last Monday, and it only
needs Royal assent to
become law. That would
mean the legal slot
machines will appear at a
race track somewhere in
Ontario within 60 to 90
days. The government
will do a review before it
allows them to be in bars
and restaurants.

School advisory group plans
proactive approach ,.
to education budget cuts
The Lucknow School Community and beneficial.
In other business at the November
meeting, -the council learned that fence
repair at the school cannot be done
with volunteer labour due to liability
problems. The council also discussed
amendments to the school's current
code of behavior and the possibility of
sponsoring a•parenting course over the
winter months.
Various fundraising projects
planned by the school were reviewed.
It should be noted that the council has
declined any fundraising role at this
time and the review was done for
information only.
Advisory Council has decided that the
looming Ministry of Education budget
cuts demands a proactive approach.
The council believes it is vitally
important that Lucknow and area resi-
dents have a fair chance to hear the
facts and then make their opinions
known. •
A town hall style meeting will be
held on a date to be announced. The
local MPP has accepted the invitation
and the council is hoping other inter-
ested parties will join the debate.
Contact will be made with other Bruce
county parent councils to see if a more
unified approach would be possible
