Platers coming to Lucknow
The Junior "A" Owen Sound Platers will be at the
Lucknow and District Sports Complex on Nov. 19 as
part of a minor hockey fundraiser.
Prior to the full team practice, head coach John
Lovell will meet with the coaches, trainers and man-
agers of the local system for clinic. Lovell is a native
of Fergus and has played some minor hockey in
Lucknow. He was quite impressed to hear about the
ice surface size here as opposed to the old arena he
was used to.
Only fourth year defenceman Shane Kenny and
trainer Rick Mancini remain ,from the Plater team
that was here in 1993.
Six volunteers were recently certified as trainers at
clinics. John MacKenzie, Kevin Cook, Greg
Andress, Randy Alton, Allan Scott and Wayne Bauer
all took the course while Jeff Gammie was certified
as an NCCP qualified coach.
An interesting item of hockey days past was
recently brought in by Donald and Dorothy
Hamilton. They have placed a one piece solid hockey
stick on display in the arena trophy case. The stick is
thought to be pre 1940 and possibly up to 75 years
old. Minor hockey is interested in obtaining hockey
artifacts for display if any any.
The LMHA is also in the midst of their annual
Pizza and Cookie Dough Sale which is their main
fundraiser. These funds are used to certify coaching
staff, buy equipment, provide power skating instruc-
tion, etc. for the local system. Please be sure to sup-
port the players when they come to your door.
