i had the opportunity to watch the
Madill cheerleaders strut their stuff
last week.
As a high school student, 1 was
never sports minded and so really never
paid much attention to the cheerleaders.
This sport is truly a team effort
based on trust and support (in many
ways).
If you,
have the
opportunity,
check out the
Madill cheer-
leaders.

Halloween is tomorrow and for the past
two weeks I've noticed the odd pump-
kin splattered on the highways or side-
walks.
Took me back in time to when I was
a teen. 1 recalled 1 was known as "Mitt`
Goody "I'wo Shoes."
A little fun never hurt anyone but
those who choose to destroy other peo-
ple's decorated work is called vandal-
ism.
The story behind the word
hatorm dans - by ancient Greek legend, these are the stNen days before and the
seven days after the winter solstice when no wind would blow. Halcyone, or
Alcyone, in Greek mythology was the daughter of Aelous and the wife of Ceyx.
When Ceyx was drowned, Halcyone threw herself into the sea. Out of pity the
gods, changed them both into halcyons, or kingfishers, and Zeus forbade the winds it was a beautiful fall day for children taking part in the Kinettes'
to blow during the kingfishers' breeding season. We use the expression to Mean a Halloween party at Morrison Berries on Saturday. Tyler MacPherson

Boat at Goderich sold to the Japanese Govt. -
Visitors to Goderich during the past two years
may have noticed what appeared to be an old
dismantled steamer anchored at the north side of the
harbor. This boat was recently sold to the Japanese
Government and it will presently set out upon the
long trip from Goderich to the Orient. It will be taken
to Port Colborne and loaded with grain for the
Japanese market and thus will be made to pay its way
across the Pacific.

ucknow loses OHA intermediate hockey
team -the Lucknow Lancers announced last
Jweek that the club will fold due to circum-
stances beyond their control.
According to the team's coach Tom Hill, the rea-
son behind the club's decision to hang up their
sweaters is their inability to guarantee the OHA that
six members of the team at every game will be resi-
dents of Lucknow.
The Lancer's withdrawal from the league will hurt
other neighboring clubs and the Lucknow Arena
Board stands to lose money also.
Cheese factory fire damage over $1 million -
Approximately 300,000 pounds of cheese
were destroyed in the three alarm blaze which
was fought by Ripley, Lucknow and Kincardine fire
departments. Pine River Cheese has been a land-
mark in this area since 1885 and employs 12 people;
and had been manufacturing 7,000 to 8,000 pounds
of cheese per day.
