Dear editor:
Two weeks ago you
.1011ted ,a letter to the edi-
tor. that described some
of the difficulties in get-
• ting a 'midway to come to
the Fair. In the same let-
ter we asked for support
from. the people 'of
Lucknow and the sur-
• rounding corinnumtieS to
help us convince the
midway thatcomingto
our -town was worth
while.
Well, we .are proud to
report that people packed
the midway area Friday
.night- and provided a
steady stream of business
for them Saturday as
well.•
Consequently, the
owner ' of Big'
Amusements has signed
an agreement to provide
Fair for the next two
years. He has plans- to
bring additional equip-
ment next year including
a merry-go-round, more
rides for smaller thildren
and a roller coaster. ,
•We are excited about
developing this -area of
the Fair and are proud to
be in a community that
responds to well when
asked for support.

• Would you ,believe I have a fake

• advanced tooth technology called gap -
Ping •
Yes, I once had huge spaces between
my teeth, but teamed that by fitting the
gaps I no longer had to hide my teeth
behhid my big lips. '
No, I'm not off my rocker, and rm.
not doing an advertising' plug for Dr.
Mowbray.,I'in attempting to find a suit-
able opening for this article. One that
will grab people's attention, so that
they will continue on to see where 1 am
going with this stilly statement.
• Like a dentist, it is my job as a sup-
, port worker at Whigharn and District
Community Living Association, to fill
the gaps 'that arise' in the' daily sched-
ules of the people I work with:
Although the majority o our time spent
in the Lucknow area is filled with very
meaningful activities, there are times
• when we have nothing to do. Why?
Sometimes it's a seasonal placement,
sometimes a cancellation, due to weath-
er, or other times it may be that we
• need something suitable for a certain
individual or individuals to do and
don't have the one-on-one support to
-
maintain a placement to its fullest
• ,
potential.
Whatever the reason for the gap, it
leaves us grasping to find something to
do for a half hour here, or 15 minutes.
there. ,
I've come to a cross road, where 1
have done all that I can as one person
supporting five individuals. 1 have
worked and reworked my schedule to
try and make things run smoother an
eliminate these gaps. I must"stressfally
admit to the community that I need
help. The government is rnot going to
provide it.
I need input from community mem-
bers. I heed your resources on how to
recruit volunteers for activities such as-
• taking someone out fortoffee, out for a
walk, joining a club otservice group. I
need people to let me know if there's
, other activities out there where we can
participate - whether it be folding bul-
letins, canvassing for community
fundraisers, walking a dog, visiting
homebound individuals, etc.
Lastly. I need people to let me know
if there's things we could be doing bet-
ter, and more importantly how we can
do things better together.
Please feel free to approach me, call
inc, or even drop off comments at the
Sentinel. It would be greatly appreciat-
ed and most surely utilized. ,
