Fall fair attendance is ditical to future of midway in town
Dear editor:
As we approach the fair
weekend, Sept. 20 to 22, .
the directors of the
Lucknow Agricultural
Society would like to
emphasize how important
good attendance is to the
continued,. success of the
fair.
There has always been
OA
a variety of •enter in nt
and a large number of
fine exhibits to view but
the midway has beena
concern some,
` :.
once n to inte
S
Obviously, we would like ..
to have the,larg t
a
best midway our fair-
grounds can . hold.:fn;
order to do this, we need.
to show that we have tele
support' of Lucknow and
the surrounding cortimu-
nitiies:
It is not easy to book a +a
midway since there, are'
fewer amusement compa-
nies available, largely
due to the increasing cost
of liability insurance. But'
the main reason ` that
L iicknow has trouble:`'get-
ting an ; agreement with a
midway is ~due to some-
thing : that happens at a
fair convention held=. u '
Toronto every
ttending ` this - gather-
ing are representatives
rn all fairs.'and':am se-
anent companies in
i ntario At this conven-
tion, a booklet is avail-
able which contains each
fair's gate -r the number
of people who paid to get
in the previous year. This
allows amusement com-
panies the luxury of
ohoosing the largest and
most -profitable engage-
ments for particular
dates
Now, some fairs have
' ensuring
fond ways ofnsu ng
that their gate is as large.
as possible, such as
charging participants in
the parade and then rem-
*
uulrstng them later`.
The Lucknow
Agricultural Society is
° investigating ways to
make sure that the
amusement companies
will get an accurate
reflection of our fair
attendance in the future.
We really need everyone

What makes this year
any different and what
can be done to encourage
larger midways in the

cal because it is one of

of future midways at the.
fair rests largely in the
hands of you, the com-
munity. If there is a good
attendance and the mid-
way sees that it is worth
coming to Lueknow, then
