This is .the third year volunteer members of the
Huron Hospice have been -selling colchicum bulbs
.(also known as .autumn crocus, meadow:°saffron ,not.
to be conf i ed with,the spice ° and wonder bulb) to
raise money for their organization.

bulbs. The Huron Hospice now has offices in
Seaforth, :Clinton and Goderich" at each of the'local
hospitals. =The Seaforth and Clinton officer numbers

Fall volunteer sessions
`'The` Huron Hospice will be holding its annual fall
course for helping those facing illness or bereavement
at the Alexaandra-:-General and Marine Hospital begin-
ning Tuesday, Sept 10.
"We had upwards of 40 people come out the last
two' years. And they stuck through the Whole thing,"
says. Shepherd».' The course. has, been.:10 weeks . in
length but this year will be cut back to eight.
Not everyone who takes the course ends up :becom
ing, a member of the Huron Hospice' Volunteer
Service -Many take the course to help. friends` and
far�nily: y
Death and dying is a topic that makes -many feel -
uncomfortable. .
"People .are ear u�1;" says Shepherd. But it's easier
,than ,most people think to help out,. "The last: tiding ons the mind of someone din is

whetheeyou*re saying.. the right thing," says the. psy-
chologist.- Sometimes just being 'with.a: person before
they die and.holdng their hand is enough,. ,
T'here are certain. rules for hospice volunteers like
not to give advice or"l a therapist ,to the person who
is terminally ill.` But to be there as ` support ` at this
important:passage of life.`
