Driver'
eludes
police
Police were called off
a high speed pursuit that
started in Lucknow and
ended in the Amberley
area on the weekend.
OPP were on patrol in
Lucknow at 2:55 a.m.,
July 13 and attempted to
stop a light colored, 1970
Chev Camaro, It was a
"routine . stop," said
Constable Andy Burgess
of the Kincardine OPP.
The vehicle turned
west on.,Highway 8:6
from Huron ,Road • 1 and
was pursued by police at
speeds exceeding 160
krnh. The vehicle turned
onto Concession 12 - 13,
Ashfield Township. It ran.
several stop signs and
was last seen heading
north on Highway 21•.
The pursuit was called
off by an OPP radio
operator in ,Mount Forest.
The Camaro matches
the description of several
driving complaints
(squealing tires) police
have received , from
• Lucknow residents.
Police are requesting
, the .public's assistance in
locating the driver or the
car by calling the OPP,

Township council is tak-
ing action to,,ensure the
municipal coffers ' aren't
being cheated out of any
building permit fees.
Effective Aug. 1, those
who start erecting.- a
building prior to a permit
being issued will race the
greater of $ 100 or 100
per cent surcharge. As an
example, if you start to,.
build, before getting that
.,permit, what .nould�; bav:e
cont you $;75 will'
increase to $150.
Clerk -treasurer Liliane
Nolan explained that
there are two , problems
facing council when peo-
ple do not get a building
permit. "If they 'don't get
caught, the municipality
doesn't get that .revenue."
And the other problem,
Nolan said, is "especially
with houses.,The build-
ing inspector is supposed
to check out the work as
the structure is being

The fire destroyed the
building and caused
extensive smoke damage

where the' fire started. A
business next door to

same building, Belle
Isle's Gone, to the Dogs

burned.

Gaunt said firefighters
had to apply a "massive
stream ofwater to get
her out because of the
heat."

burns,

Later in the day, a hi -
hoe tore down the front
of the building, a brick

the building.
"The wall above had a
bow in it," said Gaunt...
"So I said Let's. take it
down -before it kills
somebody."
Crowds watched from
the other side of .the
street for .most of the day.
While. the fire was
being foght, there was
quite a crowd' of fire-
fighters as well, as the
