charter of rights
The Ontario Student Charter of Rights and
Responsibilities was presented to the Ministry of
Education by the Huron County Board of Education
(HCBE) Student Trustees on June 21.
The charter was presented to Terry Boucher, acting
regional director, Western. Ontario Office. ,
"We are looking for their support and, approval of
having; this implemented in Ontario," said Goderich
District Collegiate Institute Student Trustee Patricia
Robinson at the June 3 presentation of . the charter to
the board.
The Huron board has' just completed two terms of
having student trustees on the board.
"tI am amazed by the enriching input they provide
for the board," said Superintendent Chuck Rowland.
Rowland said, Robinson, chair of the student trustees,
brought forward the, recommendation•from the Royal
Commission on Learning that a Student Charter of
Rights and Responsibilities be established for the
Province. The board approved that the student
trustees proceed with a first-ever student trustee con-
ference. "'file conference was a roaring success," said
Rowland, adding that during. the February confer-
ence, the students focussed on establishing this char-
terr of rights. Minister of Education John Snobelen
ameare at the conference . via video' conference and
accepted the students' commitmentto producing the
chanter,a document -which was released to themin-
istry on June. 21.
