Many reasons for taking
part in Senior Games
Tack Tufford said he
didn't do very well at the
Senior Games. But then.
again he didn'tcome to
win- - he and his wife
Vida came. for the friend-
' ship. • - •
"When you become, a
senior' you have to slow
down a -bit. You can't
win everything," the 74-
year-old`.TCincairdine man
joked,
Amelia Duncan of
Olden Sound sand .she..
comes because she loves
sports. The woman, . who
has been connpeting in
the games .for: about five
years, said it's great to
see friends whom she's
met at previous games.
Making new friend-
ships and ' renewing old
ones seemed common
among the hundreds . of
seniors that took part in
the district games held in
Walkerton Tuesday
through Thursday this
past week.
Bruce -Grey District
27 , Games' chairman -Joe
Rys said he enjoyed the
friendship of thegames:
too, adding that seniors
are exceptional `people.
"Once they decide to
do something, they do it .
. , they have the -dedica-
tion and "the time,' kys
said.
He said the games ran
smoothly and people.
fr9m variousareas com
mented on how well
events were co-ordinated.
This. was the first year
Rys was involved with
the games and credits a
host of volunteers for .the
successful' outcome. He
said as many as 300 pea,
Ole helped put the events
together' ;and a core com-
mittee of 24 people met
for :more th a year to
Y
get ready.
"The. . committee.
worked well together. It's
one of the's
one of the •
besI have ever been
involved with," he said.
The one downside was
that Rys would have
liked to have seen more
Walkerton participants.
"Someh-ow there
should be more active
.4articipation at the ideal
level. Hopefully this was
a spur to get others
involved in the years to
come," he said, adding
he thinks the number of
athletes will grow in the
next few years. "
Rys said he'll stay
involved . at the local
level next year and hopes
to be a participant too.
The following is a list
of the local winners. The
