to Vi gham hospital
The Wlrighain and
District Hospital receiv-ed
aU $8,000 donation from
Frank and ',preen Alton
of Lucknow.
The donation was
made in meinoq of their
son Jamie Alton, who
died a few years ago. The'
$8,000 was used,to pur-
chase a new blood bank
reagent system for anti-
body screening and blood•
cross-matching proce-
dures.
Registered laboratory -
technologist Teddy.
Stewart said that the
Biovue System has
improved her effective-
ness when she works in
the blood bank,
"We've cut in half the
time to do a blood crass -
match," she said. "this is
critical when emergency
patients need blood fast."
"It also makes me feel
safer, since the system
uses very small samples
of blood, and greatly
reduces my exposure to
the hazards 1 had before."
The Altons said they
kought Janie and anoth-
er son to the Winghaut
and District Hospital one
or two times a week for
treatment, for a number
of years, because they
were both hemophiliacs.
They added that the
staff at •the hospital
taught them how to inject
their sons. They Said that
the hospitals lab was
their Ilk line.
'4We . just felt that
something was needed,"

liroce county council
is standing aside in the
debate over privatization
of Ontario Hydro.
County council decid-
