Were number one.
Well at least our Farm
Progress 1995 edition has
been judged as number'
one by out peers. •
I had the opportunity to
attend my.. first.Ontario
COMMUUtty Newspaper
Association convention recently. I had
a special reason forgoingthis year, Our.
Farm Progress '95 edition was. one of
three finalists in the Special Section
• category with circulation over 6,001.
The winner used to be announced in
a 'rather casual way.. For the last two
years, the Association has put on its
own style of Oscars.. 0,01.y the three
contenders are announced and a big
,deal is made of announcing the winner..
The announcers dress in tuxedos or for-
mal wear, the lights are dimmed, a huge
spotlight pans the crowd and the names
of the. contenders are flashed on a big
screen. •
I was as excited as a kid in a candy
store. And when the Sentinel's name
was announced I jumped up, to make
• my way to the podium and receive the
just rewards for all the people who con-
tribute to our special edition. I didn't

We of -course always ,think of.our

and it gives you, a little more encour-

Placing second was the Fort Frances ' •

One of our readers thought you
•might be interested in finding, out how
• to get a free flag.'
• Seems HeritageIvlinfster Sheila
Copps is promoting national unity and
allegiance to the Maple Leaf. Toll free
lines' have been set up in an attempt to
distribute a million Canadian flags by
Feb. 15, 1997, national flag day.
Since the lines were set up, operators
have had their ears rung off.
The estimated cost of a million new
flags is $6 to $7 million. And they're
being distributed for free. But COpps's
press secretary hopes Canadian busi-
nesses will help with the cost. -
No matter which way it flies, those
flags may 'appear to be free,, but we'll
likely pay in one way or another for
them. •
