The many good features
that Huron County has to
offer to tourists are outlined
in a new video titled Huron
County - Ontario's West
Coast.
The videos explained
o -
eorgofo Morfopoulos, , lro
produced. the video with: his.
wife Fat, • owner of the.
Computer Training'
Academy (CTA) in. Clinton,
was made with the "express
purpose of promoting
tourismin Huron County."
The couple did, however"
have other goals in mind
when, they decided' to. put
the video together.
Morfopoulos noted that
Central Huron. Secondary
'School has a multi -media
course; - and they wanted to
raise awareness of this
course. At the same time, he.
said, the students from that
course, without the opportu--
nity, to use the skills they
learn locally, will have to
move for work, and thus
their skills will be lost to the
community,
Four multi -media stu-
dents were hired far the
summer when the couple
decided to sponsor t`he
video initiative. Also as part
of the project., computer
information kiosks were
placed around the county,
and used to collect market-
ingg information on what
tourists are seeing in the
, county, and what they like
and dislike.
Still as another feature of
the: sununer work for the
students, alt businesses
related -to tourism in Huron
County were put on the
Internet for free,,: while indi-
vidual merchants were
given the 'opportunity .to
upgrade their listing ,on :a
user pay basis, thus increas-
ing . the awareness and use
of modern computer tech-
nology by the county's busi-
nesses. Putting the business-
es on the Internet was
Leash, Morfopoulos, daugh-
ter of the video's producers.
The video, he said, was a
co-operative effort, as the
Computer Training
Academy, funded the initia-
tive, with the support of the
Huron • Business
Development. Corporation.
The Huron County. Board of
Education ' was. 'also
involved, as they gave per-
mission forthe students to
use the multi -Media facili-
ties over the summer. Input
also came from the Huron
Tourism. Association
(HTA), who helped gener-
ate interest in the project,
along , with some local
tourism boards, business
improvement association
and area businesses. Playing

• As .a. result of :this eo-
operaation?thevideo is now
being distributed for free to
bus tour operators nlund,
other agencies likelyto
bng tourists to the county."'
The Four students, Paul
Colbourne, Robert Kemp,.
Erin Maaskant and Christy
Scott, spent four weeks
shooting footage around the
county, and eight weeks in
the. lab ,and production.
'Assisting with videography
was Jason Bell, while for-
mer multi -media student
Matthew Maaskant was
responsible for the music;
"The first.50 units just
west out to. the HTA. last
week, and thy are now
available for sale,"
Morfopoulos stated.
The 14 -minute video
takes viewers on a tour of
the county beginning in
Grand Bend, moves north
up the Lake shoreline, then
cuts across the Wingham
area, back through Blyth
and Clinton, and, ends as
viewers leave the county in
xeter.
Narrated by Alison Lobb,
-who is a CTA instructor,
and who is well known
throughout 'the - county, the
video notes that the county
has much to offer, including
activities for those who
wish to "languish in the sun,
sample fiye star cuisine,
visit one of many museums
and attractions, experience
world class theatre, . go bib,
ing;: relax at a country inn,
explore the lnany antique
shops, tour the picturesque
roads and. heritage., street-
scapes, go, golfing or cross
country skiing, Huron,
County is a vacation desti-
nation of charm, culture and
beauty and endless possibil-
ities.'
Along the `.tour. of
"'Ontario's West Coast'',
many tourist destinations
are visited, such as Clinton's
School on Wheels, and
someinteresting points are
raised, .Lobb, during the
narration, notes that almost
one-fifth of the county's
labor force is "directly
employed by, agriculture",.
making the` ,county "the
Most prominent Canadian
agricultural Legion east of
Winnipeg."
The students involved in
the production, Morfo-pou. ,
los stated, "deserve some
acknowledgement" for
putting together the video.
"To a large extent, it was a
paid production, but every-
one put in lots of overtime
hours for free, to make it
work.. for Huron County.
